If you’ve read our Breaking Through eBook, you will know we found the Confidence Habit was something every single woman in this year’s Businesswomen’s Hall of Fame possessed. We became fascinated with the Confidence Habit and have been digging deep into the research. Turns out your level of confidence is just as important as your level of competence when it comes to achieving success in business. And scientific studies show, women are typically less confident than men. That’s having a serious impact on our businesses. And it’s stopping us from grabbing more opportunities. And it’s preventing us from making more of a difference.
So, here are 3 things you can do, right now, to boost your confidence:
1. Get really connected to your purpose We found all the women in this year’s Hall of Fame were super-connected to a big, hairy, audacious purpose. Whether it was ridding Australia of poverty, or reducing the amount of landfill from disposable packaging, through to saving our farmlands or creating environmentally friendly cleaning solutions. And this connection to purpose is one thing that helps you get past the blockages and the “no’s” and motivates you to take and create more opportunities – because you’re being pulled forward by something bigger than your fears.
2. Surround yourself with the right people Without exception, every member of the 2015 Hall of Fame has said that you can’t “go it alone” – you need to know how to build a great support team around you – including mentors, a brains trust, a strong peer network, hiring the right people and getting the right advisors at the right time.
3. Get prepared Another huge factor in building confidence for our 2015 Hall of Fame inductees has been feeling prepared… if you don’t have the information you need, make sure you find a way to get it. If you’re going to need to do a lot of public speaking, find the people who can help you do a great job. If you are about to head into a big meeting to make that “big sale” get the best advice you can from the best sales people you know. Being prepared can offset feelings of insecurity and enable you to be more empowered to say “yes” instead of “no” as the doors of opportunity open (even if they still feel a bit scary, feeling prepared can help you cross the threshold!).
Here at the Australian Businesswomen’s Network, our “big, hairy, audacious” purpose is to help businesswomen everywhere live their full potential in business and in life. And we’re so inspired by this year’s Hall of Fame members that we’re making a really special offer to everyone who’s been interested in getting more confidence. It’s a way for you to get help with points 1, 2 and 3 above… and so much more.
