Success comes when you develop powerful daily habits.
When you can turn your attention to doing the things that matter and not ALL the things, you can grow quickly (and without feeling like you’re on a hamster wheel).
So often, we are busy doing stuff that is keeping us stuck right where we are.
The three habits to drop RIGHT NOW so you can finally grow your business.
These three game-changing habits will move you from Stuck to Breakthrough Momentum.
Habit 1: Stop doing what you’ve outgrown.
A mentor once said to me:
“The reason businesses stay small is because the owners don’t stop doing the roles that they have outgrown.”
Mic drop moment.
That was me in the early years in business.
I was holding on.
Not willing to pay someone out of fear that if they made mistakes, it would cost the business dearly.
I was not trusting myself to step into a more significant role.
It turns out that the fear of letting go keeps many business owners playing small and has them falling short of their dreams.
The “only I can do this” mentality puts a lid on your growth and keeps you right in the ‘busy-ness’ of your business.
Listen. I know that YOU ARE AMAZING at what you do.
But, STOP.
Stop doing what you’ve outgrown.
Are you still packing all the orders?
Are you still writing and posting your own articles and social posts?
Are you the in-house Canva expert even though it takes you a ton of time?
Are you still handling every customer service enquiry?
You may not think you can afford someone else to do some of these tasks.
But you’ll NEVER be able to afford someone else if you keep doing things yourself.
Because you are TOO IMPORTANT to the business.
YOUR ROLE IS to run and grow the business.
YOUR ROLE IS NOT to do EVERYTHING.
How can you give that piece of work to someone else?
How can you automate that task?
How can you change the system so that you can outsource that job?
How could you work less IN the business and more ON the business?
Habit 2: Stop doing everything (and focus on what moves the needle)
When local councils approached HerBusiness Member and lawyer Amanda Farmer to help train the owners and managers of apartments buildings in their local area, she had to stop doing some of her ‘lower level’ work to take advantage of this new opportunity.
She enjoyed the process—and it was a great success.
She asked herself, “How do I rinse and repeat this? How do I do this again? How can I make this reproducible?” she wondered.
Perhaps she could take it to another council or offer it to private enterprises.
Indeed it didn’t have to be a one-off project, billed and done.
By focusing on this type of high-value activity, Amanda replaced a time-for-money business model and differentiated her business and took it online where she could leverage it. If she hadn’t stopped running around doing everything all of the time, she might never have created the space for this part of her business to develop.
Habit 3: Stop throwing spaghetti at the wall.
Once Amanda experienced success with the first council, she created a template for delivering the service repeatedly. Then, she stopped, thought carefully, and put effort into building the systems and processes to support this new revenue stream.
Amanda started thinking different about her business, which in turn enabled her entire company to shift into a new realm of possibility.
She kept coming back to ask: “Do I need to be doing this? Do I want to be doing this? Is this part of my vision?”
Stop throwing spaghetti at the wall, hoping something is going to stick. With a clear vision and an accurate roadmap, you know where to focus and what to do next. Amanda was able to check every step of the way that her activities aligned with her vision. And she did this by getting out of working in the business and focusing on the company.
Because, after all, you want a 6 to 7 figure business that thrives.
Women who join HerBusiness want to own businesses that feel easy and light.
When you first start a business, it seems like a great idea. You create products and services, you start making sales, and then… It starts to feel a bit heavy. You’re not getting the momentum you want.
You want a business where you’re not overwhelmed or burnt out from doing all the things, all the time, with variable results.
By creating time, capacity, and systems and processes, you really can feel full of joy for what you’re doing. You can achieve a state of flow and move from having rollercoaster income to reliable revenue.
And the way to do this? It’s by moving from doing all the things to doing the few things that matter the most.
