It’s no wonder why so many people give up the dream of starting a business – it’s just too much for one person to handle.
Here’s where outsourcing comes in.
Outsourcing is a cost effective way to get the support you need and to finally free you from those tasks and responsibilities that are keeping you stuck on the treadmill, never really breaking through to the next level of growth and profit you’d like.
Building a business can be draining – you’re working around the clock for long periods and that can lead you to burn out, putting your health AND your desire to STAY in business at risk.
The key to being more successful is NOT necessarily working harder or longer hours. (It took me a LONG time to figure that one out.)
One person who knows this all too well is entrepreneur, outsourcing expert and author Chris Ducker.
When I interviewed Chris Ducker, he told the story of his burnout in 2009. He’d grown this really successful business, had 120 staff. Then he hit the wall. Really badly.
If you’ve every thought, “I am no longer running my business, my business is running me” – then you’ll appreciate Chris’s story.
This happens way too often – especially when your business is at a tipping point – for example if you’re going through a growth phase or experiencing a high stress/transition phase.
Chris was able to turn things around using Virtual Assistants to get his life back and to grow his business.
And he wrote a great book on the topic of outsourcing called Virtual Freedom.
One of the most powerful things Chris shared with me was his 3 Lists to Freedom Exercise.
And I want to take you through that now.
This one simple process can TOTALLY revolutionise your business and completely change the way you look at running your business in 2017.
You will want to grab a pen and paper for this. Yep, I’m suggesting an old fashioned pen and paper and a quiet space.
Get a piece of paper and make three columns.
The first step is to make a list of the tasks you HATE doing.
So in the first column, write down a list of all the tasks you’re handling on a day-to-day basis that you REALLY HATE.
In the second column, create a list of all the tasks you STRUGGLE with. Don’t allow your own Superhero Syndrome (that’s actually Chris Ducker’s term) to get in the way of reality here. What is it that you really can’t get to flow, you do it but it weighs you down.
Step three is to create a List of Tasks You SHOULDN’T DO.
As the business leader, are you doing things that someone else could do. Are you wasting time on things that are NOT building the business?
Think long and hard here.
I know I can get really caught up in administration, for example – and get really busy and I love to check things off lists.
But that is NOT where my time is best spent and it’s probably not where your time is best spent either!
Chris calls these lists your “Three Lists to Freedom.”
And this is the priority list of tasks you want to get off your plate and delegated to someone else as soon as possible.
