As a woman business owner, showing up confidently and professionally in all aspects of your life, including your visual appearance and marketing can really help you turn more opportunities into sales.
But with so many things to consider, it can be overwhelming to know where to start.
I recently interviewed Fiona Keary of Style Liberation, who shared two actionable steps you can implement immediately to make showing up in your marketing feeling confident and ready much easier: the power of colour and the importance of choosing the right accessories.
You can listen to the entire interview here.
Tip #1: The Power of Colour Contrast
Colour is a superpower that instantly transforms your look and conveys a powerful message to those around you. One of the easiest ways to make an impact with colour is through contrast. Contrast is all about pairing colours that complement each other, creating a dynamic and visually appealing look.
There are three levels of contrast to consider when putting together an outfit: low, medium, and high. Low contrast involves pairing colours that are similar in tone, such as light blue and lavender. This creates a subtle and calming effect. Medium contrast involves pairing colours with a noticeable tone difference, such as navy blue and white. This creates a more exciting and sophisticated look. Finally, high contrast involves pairing colours completely opposite on the colour wheel, such as black and white. This creates a bold and striking look that demands attention.
When choosing colours, it’s essential to consider your skin tone and the message you want to convey. For example, if you have a warm skin tone, you’ll want to choose warm colours like red, orange, and yellow. If you have a cool skin tone, you’ll want to choose cool colours like blue, green, and purple. You can also use colour to convey emotions and messages. For example, red is often associated with passion and energy, while blue is associated with trust and professionalism.
Tip #2: The Importance of Choosing the Right Accessories
Accessories are an often overlooked aspect of visual appearance, but they can greatly impact your overall look and message. The key is to choose accessories that complement your outfit and enhance your message. For example, if you’re going for a professional and polished look, you’ll want to choose understated and elegant accessories, like a simple gold watch or pearl earrings. On the other hand, if you’re going for a bold and creative look, you’ll want to choose unique and eye-catching accessories, like a statement necklace or colourful scarf.
When choosing accessories, it’s also essential to consider the occasion and your personal style. For example, if you’re attending a formal business event, you’ll want to choose more conservative and traditional accessories. If you’re attending a creative networking event, you can be more playful and experimental with your accessories.
“As a woman business owner, it’s important to remember that your visual appearance and marketing can significantly impact how others perceive you. By implementing these two tips, you can start showing up confidently and professionally in all aspects of your life. Remember to choose colours that complement your skin tone, message, and accessories that enhance your outfit and personal style. With these tips in mind, you’ll be well on your way to making a powerful and memorable impression.”
