“The thing that holds most women back is the internal narrative.”
Radhika Lucas of Content Halo started her business because she felt the pull to do something more than just making money.
Radhika felt unfulfilled and wanted to use her skills and expertise – in advertising, marketing, behavior change, theatre, and effective speaking – to initially just help people express themselves on video; but what she discovered, after helping female founders from multiple industries, is that the thing that holds most women back is the internal narrative – or the inner story that holds them back from telling their real story.
Radhika noticed there was a problem for which she could offer a solution and it grew and evolved from there.
Radhika helps female founders show up as their authentic selves by building a presence on video and sharing their story to uncover their brand voice through her online training and program.
“Connecting with other female business owners at different stages of business inside the HerBusiness community is motivating.”
Radhika loves the camaraderie and also the familiarity of it being in the ANZ region, plus the opportunities to connect with other business owners at different stages of business is motivating.
Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
The celeb entrepreneur who comes to mind is Oprah and the reason I love Oprah’s story is because her story is so relatable for so many people. The fact that she overcame so much through conviction in herself despite the challenges she had to overcome personally says a lot about backing yourself.
Why did you start your business and what gave you the idea?
I started my business because I felt the pull to do something more than just making money which I know sounds counter intuitive to the whole idea of starting a business – which in itself is in the pursuit of making money. But for me it was because I felt unfulfilled and I wanted to use my skills and expertise to initially just help people express themselves on video; but the journey after helping female founders from multiple industries is that the narrative that holds most women back is the internal narrative – or the inner story that holds them back from telling their real story. So the idea started because I noticed there was a problem for which I could offer a solution and it grew and evolved from that.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
I personally just love the personal growth that owning a business brings along with it. It makes me more resilient, self aware and overall a resilient person
What three pieces of advice do you wish you’d been given when you started?
- It’s okay to want fast and slow at the same time – like you don’t have to follow everything sequentially – the growth comes along with the messiness.
- Always succumbing to how you feel while building the leadership needed to sustain an elevated presence will stop you from the next step and you cannot ‘outthink’ your way out of a problem. The solution is in the momentum.
- There will be more times when you will doubt and that its part of the process.
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
You only get to cruising altitude when you have invested in what it takes for the lift off. (too many people are looking for a silver bullet)
What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
- Sales, Sales, and Sales – how to sell your products or services. Not being afraid to ask for the sale and always be selling.
- Getting clear on the offer and the offering
- Then Finances
- Then Marketing
What does your IDEAL business look like? Even if you’re not there yet, what would it look like if your business was ideal?
I would love to have my methodology turned into a tool that facilitators can use – because it really is the best thing for building leadership capacity for our businesses. I would love to create a network of related and affiliated businesses that help me with propagating my methodology to more than just me.
What problem does being a Member of the HerBusiness Network solve for you and your business? And, how?
I love the camaraderie and also the familiarity of it being in the ANZ region, plus the opportunities to connect with other business owners at different stages of business is motivating.
