Diana Moschen is the woman behind archdesign nq, a successful home design company based in Northern Queensland. The design consultant and busy mother to teenagers first decided to establish a business from home because she needed the flexibility to juggle work and family life. In her own words, Diana helps clients “discover their own unique design solutions to suit their lifestyles, taste and budget.” Working from a regional area had its own obstacles, however. The distance from metropolitan areas and the CBD, as well as the size of the town, slowed the process of growing the business beyond her local community.
In order to market her business to a wider audience, Diana turned to the Internet and online technologies for networking opportunities.
Membership to the Australian Businesswomen’s Network has introduced her to the world of online business, where Diana is able to network with other businesswomen through the membership directory and access all the information she needs to manage her business. Taking part in a mentoring program (the Australian Businesswomen’s Network’s Mentornet) has also broadened her knowledge and helped her to focus on issues she had never had the time to think about before. For Diana, technology is one of the most important tools in the day-to-day management of her business. It enables her to keep in contact with clients, consultants and councils, and to receive the latest updates on legislation and trends. Her favourite part of running the business is seeing the reactions on her customers’ faces when they have found what they were looking for. Diana’s advice to those starting out in regional or remote communities is to keep up-to-date with social media, and to foster networking relationships within the local community.
