“I started my business because my life changed when I started exercising and the impact was profound. I wanted to help other women feel the same way, not just better in themselves, but more confident.”
Peta Green founded Strong Healthy Women after more than 20 years of personal experience with health and fitness. She saw firsthand how exercise and lifestyle changes could transform a person’s life, and she wanted to help other women feel stronger, more confident, and healthier — not just physically, but in their whole sense of self.
Peta’s journey into business was shaped by both personal and family experiences. In her 40s, a health scare reminded Peta of the preventable decline she had witnessed in her grandmother, which galvanized her to dedicate her life to helping other women avoid the same pitfalls.
Peta helps women over 55 who are navigating post-menopause master their strength and fitness through a 5-week life-inspired program that’s designed around their real-world needs.
“The HerBusiness Network allows me to reach out to other women in business to get help for a specific question at any time and receive other points of view.”
Peta recently celebrated 10 years of membership in the HerBusiness Network and shares that what has kept her active in the community is knowing that she can reach out to other women in business to get help for a specific question at any time and receive other points of view.
Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
Steven Bartlett: he is young, and yet wise beyond his years. He is himself, entertaining and thought provoking. And extremely honest and open about his life. Since listening to his podcast and seeing him in person, I have felt more comfortable in being me “warts and all”.
Why did you start your business and what gave you the idea?
Long story. 20+ years ago I started my business because my life changed when I started exercising and the impact was profound. I wanted to help other women feel the same way, not just better in themselves, but more confident. In my 40’s I had a health scare and knew if I did nothing I would be heading now the same path as the women in my family. I witnessed the decline of my grandmother from a preventable disease as my mother and I lived with my grandparents. I was devastated when she passed and started walking to cope with life (I was 11) And the story goes…
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
The time flexibility. I am in my mid 60s, raising 2 grandchildren for the past 2 years and they will be with us long term, so my time and how I operate with all of the balls I am juggling is essential. My partner and my mother were both in and out of hospital this year, so when you think life should be slowing down, it shocks you into going… here’s a little more to do.
What three pieces of advice do you wish you’d been given when you started?
- Listen to yourself and what you want to say and share. Whilst advice is great, you know yourself and your business better than anyone.
- Know your numbers and keep a handle on them and don’t bury your head in the sand. This is where advice is essential if you don’t know what you are doing.
- Spend time on what you are good at. Outsource what isn’t the best use of your time.
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
- Understanding it is not easy. If this is your passion (or you are just really good at it) and you are ready to go all in knowing it will be a rollcoaster, go for it.
- Don’t sign up for all and sundry, be a person of action.
- What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
- Finance – first and foremost.
- Marketing and Sales – essential to your business.

What problem does being a Member of the HerBusiness Network solve for you and your business? And, how?
