“Progress over perfection – I thought everything had to be perfect before launching, but the truth is you just need to start.”
Sari Young of Sari’s Natural Medicine began her business with a clear mission: to help people move beyond exhaustion, fatigue, and burnout by uncovering the root causes of their health challenges. Drawing on her unique background as both a registered nurse and a naturopath, Sari discovered Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis and recognized its ability to reveal underlying imbalances. This became the foundation for her practice — offering programs that are practical, personalised, and scientific.
Sari’s idea came from seeing too many people stuck without answers. “As a naturopath and registered nurse, I knew there had to be a better way to help people feel truly well again.” Her approach combines her medical knowledge and natural health expertise to deliver transformative results for her clients’ long-term well-being.
At Sari’s Natural Medicine, Sari aims to improve both physical and mental health, balance mineral levels, and help her clients live fully and passionately. She does this through Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis, private online consultations, bespoke Nutritional Balancing programs, and online courses.
“The HerBusiness Network provides a supportive network of like-minded women entrepreneurs who understand the challenges of running a business, offering advice, encouragement, and connection. Having that community makes a huge difference.”
Sari has been an active and valued member of the HerBusiness Network since 2020. She has participated in our Mastermind Experience program and serves as a Growth Group Leader for our small accountability groups. She takes full advantage of the connections and learning opportunities within the Network, and says, “It provides a supportive network of like-minded women entrepreneurs who understand the challenges of running a business, offering advice, encouragement, and connection. Having that community makes a huge difference.”
Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
I don’t really have one single favourite entrepreneur — I’ve learnt from many different people along the way. Suzi Dafnis has been influencing me through my business for many years, and she’s been the longest-standing source of guidance and inspiration. I’ve also drawn from a variety of other entrepreneurs with different strengths and styles. For me, it’s about gathering those diverse perspectives and applying what resonates to my own business and the way I serve my clients.
Why did you start your business and what gave you the idea?
I started my business because I was seeing too many people exhausted, unwell, and stuck in cycles where they weren’t finding real answers or being helped effectively.
As a naturopath and RN, I knew there had to be a better way to uncover what was going on and help people feel truly well again. Discovering Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis gave me the foundation — it revealed the root causes behind fatigue and burnout, and gave me the tools to design healing programs that are practical, personalised, and scientific.
The idea for my business came from wanting to combine my medical and natural health backgrounds into something that delivers lasting, transformative results for people’s long-term wellbeing.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
What I enjoy most about running my own business is the freedom and responsibility it gives me. I love being able to create ideas and bring them to life, to see what needs improving and have the power to make those changes. It’s deeply rewarding to care for my patients and witness their progress in health and in life, step by step. I also value flexibility — setting my own hours, being highly productive when I’m working, and having time for myself when I need it. What excites me most is the balance: guiding people to truly heal while also enjoying the creative and strategic side of business, not just the clinical work.
What four pieces of advice do you wish you’d been given when you started?
- Progress over perfection – I thought everything had to be perfect before launching, but the truth is you just need to start. Take one step, then the next. Clarity and confidence come through action.
- Invest in your own health—it’s the golden goose of your business. As a health professional, I used to try to do everything myself. I wish I had realised sooner that my energy is precious. Prioritising my own wellbeing, and creating systems and support for tech and marketing, allows me to focus on what matters most—my patients and the growth of my business.
- Your business growth mirrors your personal growth. As your business expands, you’ll inevitably grow as a person too. Success requires self-reflection, learning, and evolving—invest in yourself, and your business will flourish alongside you.
- Marketing is part of helping people – Early on, I avoided marketing because it felt “salesy”. Suzi Dafnis has been a guiding influence in my business for many years, helping me see that marketing is really just the bridge that connects people who are struggling with solutions that could genuinely transform their lives.
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
- Prioritise your own wellbeing. Maintain healthy self-care routines and have trusted natural health support in the background—your energy is your greatest asset.
- Build your support network early. Surround yourself with people who can advise, motivate, and guide you.
- Hire technical help when you can. Bringing in an expert for admin, tech, or marketing saves you time, reduces stress, and allows you to focus on what you do best.
- Take action, don’t wait for perfection. It’s easy to get stuck trying to make everything flawless. Launch when your work is strong, then adjust and improve along the way. Momentum matters more than perfection.
What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
- Every business is different, but when starting out, it’s invaluable to dive into your first project and try handling multiple aspects yourself. Learning as you go helps you become familiar with various platforms, systems, and processes, and the learning curve can be steep—but it’s worth it.
- Once you’ve gained hands-on experience, you’ll know what to outsource and how to manage it effectively. Having some knowledge in each area before bringing in external support ensures you make informed decisions and maintain control over your business.
What does your IDEAL business look like? Even if you’re not there yet, what would it look like if your business was ideal?
My ideal business would be a vibrant health retreat, where people can fully immerse themselves in wellbeing. Guests would enjoy high-level clinical care combined with restorative experiences like saunas, enemas, meditation, movement, and yoga. The retreat would be set in a sustainable, natural environment with stunning country views, fresh air, and spaces designed to nourish the mind, body, and spirit. It would be a place where people leave feeling pampered, revitalized, and empowered with personalised nutritional balancing programs.
While I haven’t created this retreat yet, I aim to give my patients a similar experience in their own homes through my programs and support. The retreat represents the next stage of my business—a dream I’m working towards—while right now I focus on helping people thrive and feel fully supported on their health journey from wherever they are.
What problem does being a Member of the HerBusiness Network solve for you and your business? And, how?
Being a member gives me access to business education across a range of areas, so I don’t have to source these resources individually. I’m able to continue learning and growing my business in an ethical, honest way. I’ve had experiences investing time and money into business education only to find the provider wasn’t trustworthy, but with HerBusiness I know what it stands for and I resonate with its values—so I save time and avoid the wrong investments.
It also provides a supportive network of like-minded women entrepreneurs who understand the challenges of running a business, offering advice, encouragement, and connection. Having that community makes a huge difference.
