“I started my career as a Naturopath, but knew 1:1 consulting full-time wasn’t for me. I always craved more freedom and flexibility, and having kids really highlighted that for me.”
Jessica Donovan of Natural Super Kids started her journey into online business with an e-book for mums about boosting their energy. When she surveyed her audience about what they most needed help with, the answer was clear — their kids’ health. That insight sparked the creation of her first course and, eventually, a thriving business.
Jessica is a Naturopath and the founder of Natural Super Kids, where she supports parents in navigating their children’s health challenges through natural health and nutrition. Jessica says, “I love big picture planning and coming up with creative ways to get parents engaged and inspired about natural health and nutrition for their kids.”
In her clinical work, Jessica has helped hundreds of parents to transform their children’s health. Her results have been from minor issues like getting picky kids to eat a more varied diet to helping clients navigate chronic issues like cystic fibrosis and everything in between, from eczema to tummy issues.
Natural Super Kids supports parents in transforming their children’s health through online naturopathic and nutrition consultations. Her course, Food Foundations For Happy, Healthy Kids, is a six-step program that helps parents take control of their children’s health using the building blocks of nutrition. Her membership program, the Natural Super Kids KLUB, provides practical advice, expert guidance, and ongoing support to help families thrive.
“As an online business owner, I spend a lot of time alone in my office. HerBusiness gives me a place I can go to for support and feedback as well as a community of like-minded business owners.”
Jessica is also the host of the Natural Super Kids Podcast, where she breaks down complex health topics into practical strategies and tools that busy parents can easily implement to boost the nutrition and well-being of their entire family, without forcing them into social isolation.
Being part of the HerBusiness Network gives Jessica the connection and support she needs to balance the isolation that comes with running an online business. “As an online business owner, I spend a lot of time alone in my office. HerBusiness gives me a place I can go to for support and feedback, as well as a community of like-minded business owners.”
Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
I’m inspired by online entrepreneurs who are focused on building their business to fit in with their dream life and values. A few that come to mind are Stu McLaren, James Wedmore and Tina Tower.
Why did you start your business and what gave you the idea?
I started my career as a Naturopath but knew one on one consulting full time wasn’t for me. I always craved more freedom and flexibility and having kids really highlighted that for me.
I started my online business journey with an ebook for Mums about improving their energy levels. The next step was to create an online program, so I sent a survey out to my audience asking them what they needed help with. The most popular response was their kids health so I created a course and eventually a business around that.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
I love big picture planning and coming up with creative ways to get parents engaged and inspired about natural health and nutrition for their kids.
What three pieces of advice do you wish you’d been given when you started?
- Focus on one key offer and refine the customer experience and marketing over time.
- Small, consistent habits are what create momentum.
- Be confident in who you are and who you most want to serve. Talking to everyone often results in no one taking notice.
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
- Starting a business is a lot like launching a rocket. In the beginning, you need a lot of energy just to get off the ground. But just like a rocket, once you’ve pushed through that initial resistance, momentum starts to build.
- All of the effort you put in at the beginning, builds the foundation that makes things easier later on.
- Stay focused, keep fueling your rocket, and trust that the payoff will come.
What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
Marketing and outsourcing!
What does your IDEAL business look like? Even if you’re not there yet, what would it look like if your business was ideal?
- Continuing to build my membership, the Natural Super Kids KLUB (our goal is to have 2,000 families in there that we support).
- I would love to be able to reduce the number of live launches we do to once or twice a year and have other ways we bring members in between launches (which we are working on right now).
- To continue to build and lead a small team who are as passionate about serving our community as I am.
