After discovering that many women in corporate leadership positions leave when they cannot lead with their heart and intuition, Emma Mason realised that there needed to be a change. And, if we have women change-makers stay in corporate roles, they can role model a different style of leadership – one that promotes collaboration, ethical decision making and the wellbeing of others.
Women are kind, smart, and savvy people whose superpowers of intuition and compassion are undervalued, especially in the workplace.
Emma Mason has combined her love for teaching and passion for personal development to build her company, Done by Design.
At Done by Design, Emma helps women in senior leadership roles thrive in their careers by building their confidence to lead from the heart and transform the way life and business is done through her online signature Leadership Done By Design online program.
She believes that it is time to separate from social conditionings and reclaim who we are. To step up to re-shape not just our future, but our families, workplaces and communities.
Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
I’m loving Glennon Doyle at the moment. I love her vulnerability and how she shows us that as women, all the things we secretly think and feel are shared. She’s shows us that it’s ok to be us in all our wild and untamed ways!
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
I love the freedom and flexibility. I love the challenge of learning new things and getting out of my comfort zone. I love the support and relationships I have been able to build all over the world as a result of connecting over a shared vision for life.
What three pieces of advice do you wish you’d been given when your started?
- Look at what’s out there but run your own race – its easy to get caught up in all the hype, courses and free challenges.
- It’s one step at time. Do something everyday. There is no overnight success – instead sucess comes from the cumulative effect of all the little things.
- It takes time to nail your ICA and you can get started before you get this 100%. You can refine it along the way.
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
Be prepared for the long haul and do something every single day. It’s the little things that matter. There won’t be one big moment without the 1000 ones that precede it!
What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
Technology, research and networking.
What does your IDEAL business look like? Even if you’re not there yet, what would it look like if your business was ideal?
My ideal business is online and can be run anywhere anytime. It’s serviced by an outsourced team and runs on automated processes so I can add value through staying in my zone of genius!
What problem does being a Member of the HerBusiness Network solve for you and your business? And, how?
My business is new but I am building an affiliate line. My ideal clients have completed their leadership training and perhaps even undertaken some professional coaching. My program (coursework and membership) is their next step and will give them a framework and ongoing support to become the leader they want to be (as opposed to the leader they have been told they should be) as their career shifts and evolves.
