When you’re in start up mode and have a million things to work on and out, it’s easy to be overwhelmed. It helps to maintain a clear focus. I know this is easy advice to give and harder to remember when you have a million thoughts circling in your head.
Use Evernote to stay on track
I’ve recently started using Evernote to keep those off track moments from taking me down the wrong track and finding myself lost. Admittedly it’s not new. I’m just new to it and didn’t know where to start when I first signed on. But I took some advice I heard which was to just start using it for everything. So that’s what I did, just jumped into it. Now when I have ideas for an article, a website fix, an accounting issue, to record an inspirational quote, or want to store a website to check later, I add a note to Evernote. The app lets you set up notepads to manage different areas of your life if you want to use it for more than just your business.
Complementary Apps
Keep in mind that my experience with it is still very fresh. I haven’t even begun to touch the sides of its capability by using the other support apps and products it offers like Skitch, Penultimate and Evernote Web Clipper. Best thing about it is I’ve got it on my mobile, iPad, computer, and in MS Outlook too. It means I can use it online or offline anywhere, across all my devices. Evernote syncs to keep everything current saves me the hassle of needing to transfer content between devices.
Simple organisation
The beauty of this system (if the above isn’t enough), is that if you have a good head for organisation and create good titles in your notes you can easily search for anything you need. There’s also a tag function that helps you categorise your notes even further – tags are on my to do list to use more.
Share ideas with your team
It’s also designed for teams to use and share. I haven’t explored this functionality myself although appreciate the potential for a start up business when developing processes. Good ideas are not the domain of one person. There’s also an option to turn your notes into dynamic presentations. This is a premium feature that you can trial before you buy.
Feel in control
My aim here isn’t to push a product. It’s to share something that’s working well for me and hopefully help you to be the master of your priorities and capture those ‘in development’ thoughts as and when they happen. It helps you unload new thoughts and return to the main game you have on that day with the knowledge your idea isn’t lost. It’s clearly no coincidence that Evernote’s logo has an elephant head on it. It’s an app that helps you make progress one note at a time.
