In a recent interview Brian Tracy, author of Motivation, explains the importance of staff motivation in the workplace. Disturbingly, Tracy believes that the average person only works to 50% of their capabilities due to lack of motivation. According to Tracy, the reason people don’t reach their full capacity is because of their lack of motivation. When people are motivated, he explains, they can do extraordinary things. The Australian Businesswomen’s Network recently interviewed Brian Tracy for an episode of the herBusiness podcast in which he explains why staff motivation is important in the workplace and how to motivate different types of workers. For example, it’s important to keep Generation Y workers involved he says. They view the workplace as opportunity to both work and socialise.
In the interview, Tracy discusses how successful organisations are ones where workers are given challenging tasks that make them work to their full potential.
Many people complain about work being hard, but are more likely to complain of being bored.
“When people don’t have hard, challenging and interesting work, they get bored and can get buried in distractions such as the Facebook, LinkedIn, and other forms of social media.”
