At this time of year, if you are anything like me, you are bombarded with advertising for detox plans, amazing weight loss diets, “find-yourself” retreats and “can’t fail” fitness programs.
They are in my inbox, on my Facebook page, in magazines and all over the TV. You know the ones!
I was reading Megan Barrow’s blog on content marketing and the trends for 2014 and it reinforced to me that so much of this stuff is marketing hype, nothing new and does not necessarily have you or your long-term best interests at heart.
Maybe you’ve made New Year’s resolutions and perhaps your resolutions are some of the 40% of resolutions that relate to fitness or weight loss. If so, sometimes it can be tempting to embark on one of these schemes.
Sure, your focus is on having a successful business and lots of satisfied customers but you still want to feel healthy, happy and energised. Business success shouldn’t have to be at the cost of your physical or emotional health. But, as in business, the best results with your health stem from the simplest, most sustainable practices; goals that are clearly identified with planned, easy, repeatable steps to get you there.
So, don’t be lured by “shiny” promises of instant change. If your health goal for 2014 is to have more energy, start by going to bed 30 minutes earlier. If you want to lose some weight, start by increase your activity by 15 minutes every day. If you feel the need to cleanse, increase your water intake by an extra 500mls and eat fresh leafy green vegetables every day.
Don’t over-complicate it and don’t set yourself up to fail by making the goals too ambitious. The best results come from the little things that you do every day.
