The winners of the My Favourite Business Book Competition have been announced and awarded prizes valued at over $1,250. Entrants shared their favourite books and why these books, and an ongoing focus on education, have made an impact on their business. The first prize has been awarded to Melanie Frok who chose Beyond Performance – How Great Organisations Build Competitive Advantage by Scott Keller and Colin Price as her favourite business book and claimed that ongoing learning is:
“Crucial. Through reading and self-education I have, and can, learn almost anything I need to know to run my business or at least how to get started. I never stop reading. I never stop learning – its where I get my energy from.”
Melanie’s prize (valued at over $1,100) includes:
- 12-months Premium Membership with the Australian Businesswomen’s Network
- 1 business mentoring session
- $250 in business books from Wiley Australia
- 1 free business course
Competition judge and Australian Businesswomen’s Network (ABN) Advisory Board Member, Amanda MacLean said:
“Melanie’s comments reflected the ABNs philosophy on ongoing learning: Learning happens at all stages throughout the lifecycle of a small business – at the start, through the day to day management of the business, and in growing the business to its (and your) full potential, in-line with one’s goals and aspirations. Melanie’s words ring true for me ‘I never stop learning’. As small business owners and managers, we are required to perform a myriad of tasks, often without any specific training – and the energy to continue applying one’s self to the tasks at hand can certainly be derived from, inspired by and energised by reading.”
The winners of 10 consolation prizes receive a copy of Valerie Khoo’s powerful business book, Power Stories: The 8 Stories You Must Tell to Build an Epic Business, which is published by Wiley. Congratulations to:
- Natasha Hawker of Employee Matters
- Christine Kinninmonth of Fertile Mind
- Leesa Musarra
- Nicole Cappelleri

“It was a great thrill to see the entries submitted as part of the My Favourite Business Book Competition and to see which books are making an impact on small business. I’m proud to have worked with Wiley to present this competition. Wiley publishes some of the greatest business books of our age and we often work with their authors because I believe the information those authors are sharing are important for small business success.” – Suzi Dafnis, Australian Businesswomen’s Network
