Yesterday morning, Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore officially launched Women’s Agenda, a recently-launched website for career-minded women. The Australian Businesswomen’s Network was invited to the Town Hall gathering where the Lord Mayor spoke about the ongoing need for women to be recognised for and judged by their actions, not the way the appear or their gender. The opening presentation was followed by a panel discussion on women and ambition.
Here are some of the career tips offered by the panel:
- Discover who the influencers are in your industry and inside of your organisation.
- Confrontational disagreement won’t win you point. Think and communicate your disagreement strategically.
- Be passionate about anything you take on outside your role, and determine if it has value and demonstrates your capability.
- Outsource what you don’t have to do to spend more time on building your career.
- Don’t start a job interview by telling your interview what you can’t do. Talk yourself up.
- You don’t need to know how to do everything in a new role before you apply for it.
- Talk to your boss about how the company can strategically position itself and how you can help drive results. Don’t talk gossip.
