On Day 3 of South By Southwest, the popular festival held in Austin each year, I interviewed Tina Tower of Begin Bright about the sessions she’s attended – particularly those with Gretchen Rubin (author of Better than Before) on her session on habits and Brené Brown (author of Daring Greatly and other powerful books).
In this video clip we discuss:
- How habits differ from goals
- Why your personal style may be the reason you haven’t achieved a goal
- Why those in the ‘cheap seats’ of life shouldn’t get you down or have you question yourself
- Getting okay with ‘failure’ and why it’s not a weakness to fall down
- The lesson every 8-year old could hear to boost their self esteem
- That unless you’e willing to ‘get in the game’ it’s hard to get results
- How to deal with negativity from ‘those in the cheap seats’
- The stories we make up that don’t support us
- Plus, we share footage from Brené Brown’s presentation
In this video Brené Brown talks about a miscommunication with her husband where he said one thing but she made up a whole story that was not true. It makes a good lesson on how we can really trip ourselves up with our behaviour. I really recommend reading Brené’s book Daring Greatly for an insight into managing the inner voice and the stories that don’t support us.
