Internships are a great way for students to gain valuable skills in their area of study. HerBusiness provides students with the opportunity to intern in various roles to gain practical experience while being mentored and trained by the dedicated team at HerBusiness.
This year, HerBusiness has had the pleasure of mentoring a number of interns from Australia and overseas.
Meet the Team
Filda Keci
Filda Keci has a Bachelor of Economics and Business Management and a Masters Degree in Management and Business Administration from the University of Milan (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore).
Filda travelled from Italy to visit Australia and interned at HerBusiness to gain experience in finance and banking. She chose to intern in Australia to improve her English and to gain work experience in a “country with high standards of living and a strong economic growth”.
Filda enjoyed working as a HerBusiness intern. She appreciated that everything was well organised and scheduled before her arrival. Plus, she had the opportunity to multi-task and to be helpful to all her colleagues.
“I didn’t feel like a new intern, I felt like part of the whole team. I attended the two meetings on Monday and Wednesday which was a great opportunity to better understand the business, the duties and most of all the people I was working with.”
“I acquired skills regarding the use of Mac System, Infusionsoft CRM, WordPress, Hootsuite and Excel. I strengthened my English skills by writing social media posts, reading articles and listening to podcasts and webinars.”
As an intern at HerBusiness, Filda has gained experience that has improved her professional and technical skills and most of all the experience has helped her personal and interpersonal growth.
Olivia Fay-Williams
Olivia Fay-Williams completed a Foundation Diploma at the Australian Film, Television & Radio School and is currently studying and a Communications Degree in Media, Arts & Production at the University of Technology Sydney.
At HerBusiness, Olivia’s focus was social media and she was involved in writing and scheduling social posts for projects such as: Beyond the City, Women in Online Retail and the Businesswomen’s Hall of Fame.
“I have used Hootsuite, set up Facebook Ads, and used WordPress to organise the blog posts. I have live tweeted during webinars and I have also participated in filming interviews for the website.”
As a social media intern at HerBusiness, Olivia has enjoyed learning about the company and taking a strong part in the social media world. She has learned a lot about the role of social media and the enormous difference between personal and business-orientated social media.
“My skill set based around social media has tripled compared to when I first started. And beyond that, my writing skills have also strengthened.”
“I am really glad to say that I have been involved in this company. I feel a great affinity to the women who are a part of it and I find that the HerBusiness website, and environment, has been a great inspiration to me, to follow my dreams, wherever they might take me.”
Verena Unterhofer
Verena Unterhofer completed a Bachelor of Business Administration in Milan at the Catholic University of Milan. Verena then went on to study at the IESEG School of Management with a specialisation in finance.
For Verena, choosing to intern in Australia was a spontaneous decision after she browsed through her university website and found an internship program with openings still available to intern in Australia.
“I didn’t actually plan this internship, it was more a series of coincidences. I thought Australia was a pretty interesting country and it seemed like a good new challenge for myself having never travelled outside of Europe.”
During the internship, Verena completed many different tasks that allowed her to gain experience in a variety of areas.
“At the beginning I worked on InfusionSoft editing profiles, and sending emails to members. I also worked a lot on WordPress, which I really enjoyed. I created posts, edited old ones, created contributor profiles and inserted new profile pictures.”
Over the course of interning at HerBusiness, Verena was able to practice her English through writing content, reading articles, listening to podcasts and webinars, and speaking at the weekly meetings.
“Through reading and learning about Australian businesswomen I realised that if you take some risks and stay focused you really can achieve your goals and objectives. They are a great inspiration!” “It was great to intern at HerBusiness and to have an insight into this company. I will take lots of new things and experiences back to Italy and hopefully can implement them in my future work.
Vanessa Baladi
Vanessa Baladi is completing her second year in a Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) at the University of Notre Dame Sydney. She endeavours to gain experience in broadcast journalism and pursue a career in this field.
As a journalism intern at HerBusiness, Vanessa worked largely on writing profiles for the ‘How I Got Started’ campaign and other blogs about successful women.
“I found each startup story for the ‘How I Got Started’ campaign to be very interesting and I learnt a lot about women in the business industry. I read through the information from SurveyMonkey and formed articles that best described the women’s successful business startup.”
While interning at HerBusiness, Vanessa noticed an improvement in her writing skills through proofreading and editing. She learned how to write in a professional style that suited the business website.
The HerBusiness internship program is an ongoing opportunity for students to gain experience in a real-world work environment. Intern positions are regularly available for students of public relations, journalism, business management, social media and digital design. You can express your interest by emailing us.
