I’m uncomfortable. Seth Godin’s book The Icarus Deception has gotten under my skin. He’s asked me to do more, make more, be more – not because he somehow figured out that I’m a Type A personality, but because I can. One of the gifts I’ve received from Seth’s previous books is this discomfort which wakes me up and spurs me to do better work. I don’t LIKE it. I’m bothered, twitchy, nauseous. But I LOVE it. It expands my comfort zone and I come up with ways to give more, produce better work (or art as Seth Godin refers to it in his book). In The Icarus Deception, Seth speaks of The Connection Economy, and about how our art is only effective when it connects with an audience, and when that audience is moved to change through that connection.
That concept scares and excites me. “Who will your customers become after they interact with you?” Seth asks. Yikes! The responsibility is one that I take on, despite wanting to run and hide.
Tomorrow (12 February) at 12.00pm AEDT, I have the pleasure of spending an hour LIVE with Seth Godin speaking about his latest book. I hope you’ll join me. Prepare to be challenged. (You know you want to be!) Best wishes, Suzi
