Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
I don’t have one favourite because anyone who has built a successful business from nothing is a MASSIVE inspiration. It reminds me that no matter who we are, success is available to all of us so long as we put in the work and surround ourselves with people who elevate us.
Why did you start your business and what gave you the idea?
After being made redundant my husband suggested I start my business. Tip for those starting out – starting a business when your self worth and self esteem are in the toilet, and you need to be bringing in an income is hard work… and will probably make you feel worse about yourself rather than better.
I gave so much away for so little. However, it really is the best form of personal development.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
I love, love, love that I get to share my passion for marketing and sales with others. My philosophy is to make marketing simple, practical, and affordable for business owners so they can take action immediately and see real results. Everything I do stems around that. I also LOVE nothing more than celebrating with my clients (I actually have a client who is running a huge promotion today and has been texting me hourly how is going with sales – I am thrilled for his success)
What three pieces of advice do you wish you’d been given when you started?
- I really wish I had someone to tell me that I was giving too much and not charging enough. But you learn that with experience.
- Get out from behind your computer and network in person. It will help you feel less lonely and give you a reason to put on going out clothes rather than sweat pants.
- Don’t waste too much time building and perfecting your website. It will change regularly as you become clearer on your offer and who you serve.
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
- Just start. It doesn’t need to be perfect but it does need to be intentional.
- You don’t need all the shiny things. You just need one offer and one client and you’ve started. Everything else will come as you evolve.
- You will fail. You will make mistakes. You will work crazy hours. But it all shapes the business you’re building.
- Don’t try and learn all the things. You will spend forever learning and perfecting rather than doing the work.
- Get comfortable with putting yourself out there and online. The earlier you start showing up and selling the more you learn and the easier it becomes – make it a habit.
- Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. They are on their journey and you are on yours.
- Mostly – have fun with it and let that joy radiate through.
What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
Sales & Marketing: If you can’t communicate your offer and close the sale you won’t make any money It comes with practice. You can learn the tips online, but until you start putting it into practice you won’t being to truly learn the art.
What does your IDEAL business look like? Even if you’re not there yet, what would it look like if your business was ideal?
One where I get to indulge in personal and professional development whilst elevating client’s businesses through creating and implementing marketing strategies that help them shine – and then celebrate their success.
