At last month’s Entrepreneurs’ Roundtables (a feature of Growth Membership) the group of members completed our usual task of setting quarterly business goals and checking in on goals made at previous meetings. Additionally we did a fun exercise that I invite you to join in on. The final activity (after a serious look at achievements and aspirations, problem solving and collaboration) was for each member to answer the question:
If you were to be BOLD in 2011, what would you do?
The answers, compiled in a few minutes of quiet contemplation, included:
- “Write a book.”
- “Take xxx time overseas, away from business.” (Times varied from a few weeks to three months)
- “Play more, work less.”
- “Sell my business.”
- “Start a blog.”
- “Convert a friend to a boyfriend.”
- “Have a second child.”
- “Push the business fearlessly.”
- “Have a drug-free birth.”
- “Stop being operationally critical in my business,”
- “Do a half-marathon.”
What the exercise allowed us to do was to take our focus of regular ‘goals’ and look at those items that would stretch us beyond where we feel comfortable and to find solutions to ‘problems’ that it would take BEING bold in order to achieve. The ‘time away from business’ vision was a common aspiration, and one that I fully understand, having worked 7 days a week for most of my early years in business. (Having just come back from 7 days in Fiji and having not been on email the whole time is a first for me… I know that I’m definitely still ‘learning’ in this area of ‘switching off’.) So, what would it be for you? If you were to be BOLD in 2011, what would you do? You can use the comment feature below to tell us. Best wishes, Suzi
P.S. The Entrepreneurs’ Roundtables are quarterly forums for business brainstorming, collaboration and shared experiences. At these meetings we work on business growth strategies, accountability and we facilitate connections between women. These events are free for Growth Members. Learn more about Growth Membership here.
