In his book, The Power of Foursquare, Carmine Gallo explains the location-based social media platform taking the business world by storm.
Foursquare is a mobile social media application. An app that you download to your mobile device—your iPhone, your Android phone, what have you—it allows you to unlock your city (or any city in the world). It makes the world a much more interesting place.
Foursquare is a location-based service meaning, it serves information to you based on your physical location. So, wherever you are, anywhere in the world, whether it’s Sydney or Tokyo or New York, you can open your foursquare application on your phone and you will find a list of places (cafes, gyms, places of interest) that are nearby. What this means for small business owners is that listing your business on foursquare could mean additional foot traffic. If you don’t have a business that clients visit in person, you can still benefit by using foursquare as a way to share valuable information. Here are some foursquare facts from the company’s website: Foursquare by the numbers (last updated January, 2014)
- Community: Over 45 million people worldwide
- Over 5 billion check-ins, with millions more every day
- Businesses: Over 1.6 million using the Merchant Platform (more information at foursquare.com/business)
In a one-hour presentation, hosted by the Australian Businesswomen’s Network, Carmine Gallo looks at how foursquare can be used by any small business as marketing and customer service tool. Click here to on-demand webinar recording of The Power of Foursquare.
