“I’m an advocate for leading from self with confidence, inner strength and radical transparency to then confidently and authentically lead others.”
Founder and Principal Coach of Empowered Leader, Liz Ellis, utilises her side hustle to help female leaders who are stuck second-guessing themselves.
As a Level 2 Coach, Neurolinguistic Practioner (NLP), Timeline Therapist and Conscious Hypnosis Practioner, Liz guides her clients to breakthroughs that help them better understand themselves and connect with their purpose. Self-leadership is the bedrock of her coaching, assuming that everyone is whole once the layers of disidentification are shed to reveal our strengths and authentic self.
With more than 20 years of experience across several sectors, Liz has realised that we, as humans, tend to over complicate things and overwork for little reward or fulfilment, which is why she values sustainability and living simply. With these values in mind, Liz uses her coaching expertise to break negative behaviour patterns and remove limiting beliefs in order to lead, influence and inspire others.
Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
Wow, I have a few to be honest. I think the entrepeneur that has inspired me is Richard Branson for his vision and his grit. I also really admire his unshakable self-belief. It waivered from time to time but it was always there. I admire that the most in people.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
I love the challenge – I also love the learnings that I gain as a result. The learnings are about myself, business, trends and opportunities. It pushes me to explore what I probably wouldn’t if I didn’t ‘need to’
What three pieces of advice do you wish you’d been given when you started?
- Sign up to Her Business straight away! Although I’m a planner by nature in my full-time role, translating that into something tangible for myself was eluding me.
- Pace yourself – Rome wasn’t built in a day. Prioritise and focus like a laser.
- Take opportunities to show up for myself and others. You never know where it will lead. Everything has a season and a reason.
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
If you’re starting out as a solo or micro-preneur, get involved in a bsuiness network that will support you to develop systems and processes that will underpin your business growth and evolution.
Be honest about your time commitment to your business in the face of real life.
Know your weaknesses and manage them.
What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
Skills in business planning would probably be my number one. Making sure that steps and projects are actionable and measurable.
What does your IDEAL business look like? Even if you’re not there yet.
My ideal business is a combination of an online course course ticking away in the background (that gets updated with fresh content tweaks twice yearly) as well as 1 on 1 coaching and consulting 2-3 days a week.
What problem does being a Member of the HerBusiness Network solve for you and your business? And, how?
I breathe out to be honest. it’s the support and advice from members that makes the difference, not to mention the plethora of information available in the library for members. It’s a one stop shop for me in terms of getting clear on my goals and then educating myself or seeking the RIGHT skills and advice to execute.
