When challenging life events, adversity and personal struggles affected Karen Weller’s family mental, physical and financial wellbeing, it led her to develop a passion for writing and started writing to share her life experiences through a blog with a passion to connect with the community.
With more than 25-years of experience in business administration, agribusiness management and office management, Karen set up her business Karen Weller Business Services 2 years ago.
At Karen Weller Business Services, Karen uses her administration skills, writing and exclusive business resources to strategically support small-business owners and individuals to succeed in life. Her passion for personal growth has led her to develop a Business Membership model, with a natural tenacity to support and help others.
Karen’s motto is to “Own Who You Are” and allow the world to see the real you. Business will strategically and successfully mould around who you really are and what you believe in.
Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
“ Oprah Winfrey because of her passion in life despite adversity. She is a genuinely caring successful woman through her philanthropist activities and lifts others up every day. She sets goals, implements strategies and works for what she believes in. It is her values that mean so much to me.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
“My favourite part of running my own business is that I can be the best version of myself and expand upon my own knowledge to help my clients even further. The ability to be able to share my expertise with a strong focus on my values is very important to me.”
What three pieces of advice do you wish you’d been given when you started?
- Believe in yourself and accept your differences as an asset. Being different is what makes us special. We need not fit in a certain box just because that is how it is.
- Find a mentor that your values align with. Someone who will encourage your best results and challenge your thought processes.
- Create a Business Plan to give you clearer direction, more focus and a plan to be successful. Review your Business Plan and update as necessary.
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
“Identify your passion and what lights you up. Really understand exactly what it is that you want to do.
Objectively ask yourself how can you help people with your skills or resources. Make sure you get my Business Startup Checklist to guide you along the way.”
What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
- Communication skills.
- Management skills and resources.
- Social Media Marketing.
What does your IDEAL business look like? Even if you’re not there yet, what would it look like if your business was ideal?
“Many successful small-business clients supported by my resources and business advice. A membership base full of community spirit and kinship.
I would move from working 7 days a week across 2 businesses to management level and developing more personal growth courses.
My ideal business will move from solopreneur to micropreneur, small enough to keep personal connections yet large enough to employ 3 staff members.”
What problem does being a Member of the HerBusiness Network solve for you and your business? And, how?
“Living in a rural location, the HerBusiness Network supports my need for community spirit and provides me with the opportunity to share with other members.
I don’t like selling and self-promotion, but this Network gives me a credible foundation of members that may require business support to feel comfortable reaching out to me.”
