We’re off and running with 30 Days of Networking. Since we’ll be using Twitter as the platform for our networking let’s start right now by raising your visibility. Tweet something. And then, let’s see what happens.
But, what should you tweet? What you tweet DOES matter. Luckily, there are no hard and fast rules for what to tweet. Well, not really. For today, let’s just start by tweeting something that those that follow us (or could possibly follow us) might be interested in. Why are we doing this? The goal is to: a) have something to focus our tweet b) have you tweet at least once today Here’s what I’d like you to tweet about today, and here’s why: Tweeting a resource that you found useful and that others – potential clients, partners, alliances – could find useful, raises your visibility and positions you as ‘someone in the know’. So, share one resource. Share it right through Twitter. SHARE THIS: What are you reading?
- Are you reading a business book or article that others will find of interest?
- If you’re reading online – include a link so that others can also read the article/blog post etc.
- If it’s a paper copy of a book, you can share a link to the author’s site or to amazon.com or an online bookstore where others can buy the book.
- Here’s a quick tip on adding a link to a tweet.
- Remember to include the http:// prefix to your URL. e.g. http://web.archive.org/web/20040318190533/http://www.url.com.au:80/ will work, but www.url.com.au will not give your readers a ‘live’ link
- Use a URL abbreviating service like bitly.com or tinyurl.com to help shorten your link
BEFORE YOU TWEET: A tip to help you spread your message wider. TIP: INCLUDE THE 30 Days of Networking HASH TAG Include these characters somewhere in your Tweet:
#30DNet
That’s the ‘hash tag’ for 30 Days of Networking. I’ll talk more about hash tags in a future lesson, but for now, go ahead and use those characters in your tweet. We’ll use this tag through the program and it means that all those participating (either actively or silently in the background) will be able to see your tweets. This is a great way to aggregate the information that is being shared. Confused? Feel free to add a comment/ask a question below for more clarification. My tweet might be: Day 1 of #30DNet and I’m sharing What to Tweet about with participants. Learn more here. http://bit.ly/iUgsW (I shortened the URL using bitly.com.) BEFORE WE GO: Did you set your goals for the 30 Days? If not, you can do that now here. It helps to have direction and setting just a couple of goals will help us focus our energy over the next few weeks. A TASK FOR TODAY Go to your Twitter account now and Tweet a resource. Go ahead, do it now. Then… we can discuss what happened. Til then, Suzi P.S. TOMORROW – TO FOLLOW OR NOT TO FOLLOW? Your followers and who you follow are you Twitter network. Tomorrow we’ll look at who to follow and how to strategically invite others to follow you. We’ll look at the importance of who we follow and how to have the most relevant followers in our community.
