How is your business travelling in the silly season? Is it a crazy run up to Christmas, or are you already enjoying a pre-Christmas wind down? I love the extra socialising with friends and family that comes with the build up to December 25. During the year, it’s so easy to let weeks and months go by meaning to see people who are special to us, but not actually getting around to it. Christmas sets a deadline, which works for me. As the year comes to a close, I also value the chance to celebrate the achievements (and reflect on the failures!) of the past 12 months. There’s also the countdown to a holiday and recharge of mental and physical batteries. But what I love most is that Christmas reminds us to say Thank You. In our crowded business lives, it’s all too easy to take customers, colleagues, team members and essential business partners for granted. If you haven’t thought about it during the year, there’s still time to take action. Keep in mind that whatever the gift, it is for and about the receiver, not you. Whether you have a tiny budget or can splash out, give with thoughtfulness and generosity of spirit. My 4 ideas for saying Thank You – memorably and meaningfully.
- Donate to a favourite charity on their behalf – and tell them exactly what the money will do.
- A book that will stimulate their business creative juices (Check out the Booked for Lunch speakers this year for suggestions)
- Something practical to make their life easier or more enjoyable in 2016. Tailor to each recipient. Think travel kit for a frequent flyer, gourmet oils or spices for a keen cook.
- An experience – movie tickets, dinner gift card, massage/spa voucher
Good luck in getting your creative gift-giving juices flowing! Best wishes for Christmas – and a very successful year in your business in 2016!
