Lisa Murray is the owner of two successful companies, Revive Business Coaching and Creativity Lab. For her, the whole world is a business playground. She believes in changing the status quo by working with businesses that are dissatisfied with their operational structures and models. With what she calls a “serendipitous, synchronistic style”, Lisa’s philosophy is to trust in the unconventional and to be infinitely curious so that businesses can continue to evolve. After establishing Revive Coaching in Brisbane, Lisa moved to the Sunshine Coast where she would later start Creative Lab. Though the transition was made easier by online technologies, she also did a lot of travelling in the first two years for her face-to-face clients. Lisa is currently changing her business model to foster more opportunities for international travel – distance is not a barrier as she loves travelling! She has even been invited to run Creativity Lab overseas in 2013. As an expert at helping other businesses evolve, Lisa has also had some assistance for her professional evolution. She attends the Entrepreneurs’ Roundtable events organised by the Australian Businesswomen’s Network to gain new ideas and inspiration.
“As a coach, it’s easy to get caught up in your own methodologies and [they] have been a great contribution in expanding my possibilities,” she says.
Lisa is also a guest blogger for the ABN’s herBusiness Blog where she has been able to reach a broader audience and translate her ideas into practical information that traditional businesses can use. As a member, she also has access to a range of resources that have helped her grow her business. Based on the Sunshine Coast, Lisa has encountered few other businesswomen within her region. She has extended her networks beyond her local community by using Skype, Facebook and LinkedIn, which allow her to stay well connected. Lisa attends networking groups, festivals and events where she also speaks. She takes advantage of her travel opportunities to expand her business connections with others around the world. Lisa is deeply passionate about pursuing ventures that encourage professional as well as personal fulfilment. She is no longer the perfectionist she once was when she first started out in business, believing instead in the power of creativity and spontaneity. Her advice for women who are just starting their own business in a regional or remote community is:
“Be different. Be you. Don’t create a business unless you truly love it. It’s an adventure – have fun!”
