Pix Jonasson established her own business after being thoroughly disheartened from twenty years of working for the government. She started up her own business while working part-time to give her more control over what she did and with whom she worked. Now, her company, Success Dynamics Group, is a leading international Information Marketing consulting agency. After attending an internet event, Pix saw an opportunity to create her own business. It now affords her the freedom to set her own agenda and gives her the flexibility to do what she wants at her own pace. But there have been a few obstacles as well, some of which have arisen from being based in a regional community and some that come simply from the nature of business in today’s world. For one, keeping up with the international marketplace has meant that the company has had to develop a twenty-four hour online presence.
Pix has overcome some of these business challenges by partnering with the Australian Businesswomen’s Network.
Through her membership, she has been able to reach out to audiences on a local, national and regional level and has, in turn, expanded her market. For this, she also turns to online marketing techniques and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Pix is a strong advocate for developing media relations and strategies in order to foster business growth and development. Media releases, interviews and events are crucial to establishing her business presence, and she has been regularly featured in local, regional and metropolitan media. Technology is indispensable when it comes to overcoming the distance barrier. Pix uses Skype and online webinars to create online and offline training courses. For her own professional development, Pix makes use of the training resources and webinars made available by the ABN. They have also allowed her to research current research trends to grow her business. Pix’s advice for women looking to start their own business in a regional or remote community is to network as much as possible:
“Your network is your net worth! It’s not what you know or who you know – it’s who knows you. Volunteer. Get involved. Be determined, passionate, patient.”
