The Mentoree: Louise Yeandle
Company: Mystery Flights Why did you become a mentoree? To gain knowledge in the areas of running a business that I had no previous experience in. As an accountant I was strong on the financial side of things but needed to learn about the other areas. I knew that my business was ready to take the next step. To do this was going to require a bigger investment of time and money. I wanted to make sure I was considering all I needed to be in my business plan. What were you hoping to get from the experience? Increased confidence and the benefit of having someone to ask for a second opinion when making the ‘big’ decisions. What is the biggest challenge of being a mentoree? Finding the time for the weekly meetings and for the ‘homework’. What is the most powerful thing you’ve learned? To trust myself. I lacked confidence and I worried that I wasn’t doing all I should be or not doing things the best way. But having worked through the program I realised that I had been considering most things and that many of my ideas were good ones. What would you say to anyone considering being a mentoree in the MentorNet program? Be ready to really commit to the program. It is important that you find the time to attend and prepare for the weekly sessions as well as building a relationship with your mentor and fellow mentorees. How do you use the Internet and Internet Marketing in your business? Mystery Flights has always been a web based business. While we do advertise our phone number, our aim has always been to sell and service all bookings via the website and emails. Having such a great domain name has been invaluable. As the domain name matches what we sell we have always had great search engine results. Did the Technology module in the MentorNet program help your Website Marketing strategy? And How? Yes. Learning more about how various social networking sites can be used to target new business (especially Gen Y’s). This is particularly great as many of these avenues are free.
