There’s a saying that ‘if nothing changes, nothing changes’.
Yep. I believe that.
But making changes in your business can feel scary.
Whether that change is increasing your prices or your business model, bringing on team members, committing to a new product or service, or simply putting yourself out there to be more visible…
… it can feel so scary that we do nothing.
Sometimes, we don’t even know what needs to change. But we know we feel restless, tired, and ‘done’ with the current situation.
But what to do?
Nothing. Often, we’ll do nothing.
We choose to stay in the dissatisfaction rather than risk changing.
So, we change nothing, and nothing changes.
But why would we choose to stay stuck rather than risk change?
I believe it’s fear.
Change takes us from a place of confidence in what we know and thrusts us into the unknown, where we don’t feel sure or confident.
We choose to stick with doing what we know, even when it is not giving us the life we want.
Sounds crazy, right?
Fear of change is a big dream stealer.
When you keep doing the same things, hoping for but not realising a different result, you can also start to feel like a hamster on a wheel – going through the motions but not actually progressing.
Business feels like a ‘grind’.
And we can grind for a long time without even noticing that we’re standing still or going backwards.
Fear of change can steal your self-esteem and your business success.
So, would you answer this?
How would you feel if, 12 months from now, you were right where you are in business and success but a year older?
How might that feel?
If you’re happy with your answer, GREAT!
If you’re not, then here are four questions I take time to answer each year:
- What no longer serves me, personally?
- What no longer serves the business?
- What personal changes do I know I need to make but have been afraid to make? (One of mine is listed below.)
- What business changes do I know I need to make but have been afraid to make?
I hope you’ll join me in asking yourself the same questions and seeing what answers your mind brings.
Once you have the answers, you can choose whether or not to take action.
Fear of change can be an absolute dream stealer.
So, if you’re waiting for a sign that the timing is right for you to make a change, let this message be your sign.
Remember, not making a choice is choosing to stay where you are.
And, you get to decide if that is a good thing or whether it’s through change that you will start to realise your dreams.
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead.

P.S. If you try this exercise (which I really hope you do), I’d love to know your thoughts. What decisions did you make as a result? Simply email me here to let me know. I reply to every message.
PS The photo was taken yesterday during a run. I’m so blessed to be able to run to this point from my home. More consistent running is one of my answers to the question: What personal changes do I know I need to make but have been afraid to make?
