When Fiona Keary turned thirty, she had what she affectionately refers to as an early midlife crisis. Owning a business had never been a part of Fiona’s plan, but her “light bulb moment” came when she looked at her professional role and realized she couldn’t see herself staying in it for the rest of her life.
That desire for something different, for more freedom and a chance to be creative, lead Fiona to owning Style Liberation, a personal styling service for women 35+. Fiona helps busy women streamline their mornings with a wardrobe that makes them feel confident every day.
“I love to work. I love having that purpose. I get to have something on my own terms and build something that I want and mould it in a way that I see working.”
Fiona’s business did its job of fulfilling her creatively and freeing up her life, but eventually, after becoming a mother of two boys, it became about more than that. Fiona’s younger son, Max, has cerebral palsy, and he’s limited in his mobility and communication.
“Now, the business is about creating a secure financial future for my family.”
To do that, Fiona needed help with her marketing. That’s where HerBusiness came in. What started as assistance with creating a marketing system became a support system Fiona can turn to whenever she faces a challenge.
“To be surrounded by a group of people that are really there to create some amazing businesses…I get goosebumps. It really motivates you to work smarter, harder and to reach your goals.”
Fiona’s revenue has doubled in the past two years, and she can’t imagine going back to working a job instead of owning a business. There’s no time for set hours when she’s busy securing a future for her family and building her ideal business.
“An ideal business is a business that cares about other people. It cares about its clients; it cares about its team; it cares about its owner.”
