“Be clear on your intention, the deeper version of WHY you are doing what you are doing …what you really wish to offer (sincerely) and receive (openly) in this adventure. ”
Penny Short of True Frequency has been working with Energy as a Practitioner for 22 years. For many years, Penny was a Preschool and Primary teacher until she had a life changing experience in 1996.
Penny felt a strong pull to teach and live in a remote Aboriginal Community in NorthEast Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. For nearly two years she was the teacher and learner in this community, living and working with Aboriginal families, their food, language, dance and culture. This extraordinary experience opened her eyes to the ‘reality’ of the metaphysical and to the true meaning of living spiritually.
She eventually returned to Sydney and began to study Spiritual and Energetic Healing with a range of teachers from different traditions and philosophies.
Penny now shares these ideologies, practices and principles in her sessions and workshops and continues to be inspired by people’s journey back to their true nature or True Frequency. “Be clear on your intention, the deeper version of WHY you are doing what you are doing …what you really wish to offer (sincerely) and receive (openly) in this adventure”.
Penny assists people who are on the path of personal growth to understand and manage their personal energy, connect to their inner selves and demystify the ‘spiritual’ world. Through 1:1 sessions, training workshops in Randwick and Gerringong, and an extensive content library, clients are able to take charge of their energy from awareness and feel more grounded and capable.
Penny joined the HerBusiness Network early this year, and has found that the connections she has created in the community allow her to ask for help with current challenges, and brainstorm ideas for the future. She also loves the library that includes hundreds of trainings, where she can search for ideas when she is stumped for how to think differently about a current issue.
Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
Caroline Myss, she has been around for a long time and very solid in her business model, full of integrity, moves with the times, and her content and team are easily accessible.
Why did you start your business and what gave you the idea?
It was ‘accidental’ really. I was working full time as a school teacher and just working with friends and colleagues on the weekends purely out of my fascination for the area of Energetic Healing. I was studying this part time. It just grew very quickly from word of mouth. I then began charging for consultations and it still continued to grow …until I had to make a decision which career I wanted to focus on.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
The flexibility, the creativity, the instant feedback, the feeling that you are ‘not working’ really just pursuing an interest area full time.
What three pieces of advice do you wish you’d been given when you started?
- How to create a price point for products and services
- Self care so you don’t burn out too quickly… this includes over-giving and under-charging
- A directory of people you can trust for help on software, accounting, web development etc
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
Be clear on your intention, the deeper version of WHY you are doing what you are doing …what you really wish to offer (sincerely) and receive (openly) in this adventure.
What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
Get a coach or an advisor to help set up a website you can manage yourself, accounting software that is easy to use, and email marketing that again is user-friendly. Skill up on your basic system software technical support so you don’t waste time on the tech stuff that supports your current areas of need, and don’t buy things your business is not ready for.
What does your IDEAL business look like? Even if you’re not there yet, what would it look like if your business was ideal?
Ideal scene: I am running my workshops, retreats, and seminar sessions online and in person in various locations with the most wonderful tech support that fine-tunes all the recordings, packages it up in various bundles for sale, and does all the customer support. I work where and when I like and feel so I’m free to create the content at will. It pays for our lifestyle and our fabulous holidays.
