“I won’t promise to get rid of all your problems. What I will do is help you get closer to balance, one solution at a time.”
Marion Metz of Marion Metz Solutions is a specialist who collaborates with impact-oriented solopreneurs and authors who are passionate about their work but find themselves overwhelmed, frustrated, and constantly caught up in the day-to-day operations of their businesses.
Her approach involves crafting tailored systems and providing support that aligns with each individual’s unique style, thereby allowing them to achieve a more balanced and fulfilling business and personal life.
Marion’s business journey was born out of necessity and a passion for administrative work. After relocating and struggling to secure employment in a new city, she decided to leverage her skills by offering administrative services to those in need. What began as a means gradually evolved into a thriving business as Marion expanded her offerings to encompass additional skills she acquired along the way.
For Marion, the most rewarding aspect of running her own business is the freedom it affords her. She relishes the autonomy to engage in work she loves and to adapt processes as needed.
In her role as a Solutionist, Marion effectively identifies underlying issues and offers practical solutions through the implementation of effective processes and systems. While she doesn’t promise to eliminate all challenges, she is dedicated to assisting clients in moving closer to balance, one solution at a time.
Marion’s signature package, Business Balance: Systems for Success, is designed for service-based solopreneurs seeking to reduce overwhelm and stress in their work and personal lives. Through customised systems and support, Marion helps clients achieve peace of mind and organisational efficiency, enabling them to make a positive impact while enjoying greater ease and fulfillment. The package includes a Business Joy and Systems Audit, a Strategy Call, a bespoke Action Plan, and email support.
Being a member of the HerBusiness Network provides Marion with invaluable support and motivation for her business. She gets a sense of accountability and community, where she can find inspiration and guidance from businesswomen facing similar challenges. Marion says that the successes that women share, light her up and provide encouragement.
Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop. She stood up for what she believed in and she created an ethical business. She cared for our environment and the human rights of all people. She was very feminine and at the same time a strong woman.
I always wanted to be “like her”.
Why did you start your business and what gave you the idea?
I started my business out of necessity. I quit my favourite job because I moved places, and in the new city, I couldn’t find employment. So I started offering my services, at the time administration, to anybody that needed them. I knew I was good at admin work, I loved it, and every time I learned a new skill, I offered this as well.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
Freedom! The freedom to do the work I love, the freedom to change processes that won’t work any longer, without having to have discussions about it with a boss. The freedom to work in the garden when needed (seasonal growing of vegetables), and still get my work done because I can do that in the evening.
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
Be aware that at the beginning you might need to do all the things yourself. That might sound overwhelming, but it is a great way to figure out what areas of the business you are good at.
What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
Financials, get to know what your money is doing for you. Get an investor mindset and know your numbers, very important!
Marketing and therefore knowing who you offer your services to.
Getting out of your comfort zone if marketing is not your forte (I’m saying this to myself too).
What does your IDEAL business look like? Even if you’re not there yet, what would it look like if your business was ideal?
My ideal business situation would be that I could work in my business for around 20 to 30 hours per week, just doing the work I love. I wouldn’t need to do any marketing, because I would get referrals, so I could really focus on the work at hand.
What problem does being a Member of the HerBusiness Network solve for you and your business? And, how?
It keeps me going in a way. I love the accountability that sometimes comes just with reading posts from women who have an issue they want to talk about or seek advice on.
The successes some women share, light me up and encourage me to keep going.
