“Be constantly educating yourself about different aspects of business management. You don’t have to master it all, but you do need to have an understanding of it.”
Lisa West of Lisa West Yoga Mind Body Therapy specialises in guiding stressed and burnt-out women through yoga therapy to find balance, reduce tension, and improve their overall quality of life. Her approach blends the wisdom of yoga philosophy with therapeutic practices, empowering women to take an active role in their healing journey.
Initially starting her career in coaching, Lisa’s interest in human behaviour and personal development led her to study various coaching techniques. However, a significant health setback before turning 50 shifted her path. She took time off to reassess her life and, ultimately, decided to become a yoga teacher and later, a yoga therapist. Becoming a therapist allowed Lisa to integrate her coaching skills with the therapeutic practices of yoga, creating a powerful, transformative approach to improving health.
Lisa specialises in helping women reconnect with themselves, break free from the cycle of stress, and reclaim their energy and balance. Through personalised wellness plans, she transforms stress into strength and burnout into lasting balance, empowering women to live with more ease and freedom
Lisa offers yoga therapy in Moss Vale, NSW, and online consultations. Her services include personalised yoga therapy, yoga classes, and yoga experiences in the Southern Highlands.
For Lisa, the benefit of being part of the HerBusiness Network is the combination of mentoring, community support, and business education, to support her in building a stronger, more aligned business.
Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
Lisa Messenger – A creative who followed her instincts, stuck true to what she believed in, didn’t always get it right but she’s honest, has integrity and is well respected. This is how I saw her: watching her journey, buying her magazine, reading her books and following her fertility journey – A strong inspirational role model I believe, in business and life.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
Being able to be the facilitator of change, through movement and education about the ind and body but most importantly witnessing progress and transformation in the women I get to work with. That’s the biggest joy. When a client has a moment of clarity or a pivot in thinking that changes the way they look at themselves or their problem, that’s the transformative piece that excites me because, right there, that’s the possibility for change.
What three pieces of advice do you wish you’d been given when you started?
- Learn to trust yourself regardless of what anyone says. If your body says yes or no then there’s a reason why it’s yes or no.
- Be constantly educating yourself about different aspects of business management, you don’t have to master it all but you do need to have an understanding of it.
- Take notice of what your strengths/weaknesses are, then manage your money so you can outsource what your weaknesses are and focus on your strengths.
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
- Always be working on yourself. You are the main reason the business is successful or not.
- Take care of your health and fitness, it will take care of your mind.
- Learn to trust your intuition, it is always the best guide for you.
- Work out your money story, this will definitely impact your decisions and how much you earn or not.
What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
- Learn how to manage your money, if you can’t do it, then find someone who can.
- Understand why you want this business, and make sure it aligns with what you value in life, otherwise it may become more of a drain then an inspiration
