“Clients come to me because they are looking for a solution to make their business more efficient, productive and profitable.”
After 19 years of building a profitable bookkeeping business, Leigh Cummings of Mint Dynamics decided to sell and focus on her passion of improving business performance. Whether this is being an ear of support, cashflow management or implementing systems to improve the overall running of the business. Leigh is a business consultant with over 20 years experience in running small business. Leigh’s logical approach combined with her ability to embrace and create change has been her winning formula throughout her successful career. Leigh is accomplished at identifying organisational requirements and implementing technical solutions to enhance business efficiencies.
Leigh is a Registered BAS Agent with Certificate IV in Accounting qualifications. She has extensive experience working with a wide range of industries including trades, retail and wholesale, medical, financial planning, and hospitality.
Now, at Mint Dynamics, Leigh works in partnership with business owners across Australia in the scale-up stage (3-5 years in business) to simplify running a business by matching and implementing software.
This results in an improved work culture, efficient workflows and greater productivity, giving back time and money to support business growth.
Leigh says that, as a solopreneur, being part of the HerBusiness Network gives her an opportunity to connect with other female business owners wanting to grow their business. The online sessions help you focus on working on your business and setting it up for growth and allow you to connect to other members, understand what they want to do and build a connection.
When not working with clients, Leigh enjoys tennis, walking and bike rides around the beautiful beaches of Newcastle. She is devoted to her clients, family and friends while striving for the ultimate work-life balance.
Who’s your favourite entrepreneur and why?
Janine Allis – I love her humble beginnings and how she made her idea into a success. I also find her as someone willing to invest in great ideas and give other business owners much needed advice.
Why did you start your business and what gave you the idea?
I had a previous business that I built from the ground up and ran for 19 years. It was time to evolve, so I sold it and created Mint Dynamics. I am passionate about helping business owners grow and reach their goals. I have a lot of experience in riding the highs and lows of the rollercoaster we call business and wanted to offer services using my experience and expertise. Business can be complicated and I make it simpler.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
Clients come to me because they are looking for a solution to make their business more efficient, productive and profitable. They are time poor and looking for a better way to do business. What I love the most is finding a solution, implementing it and seeing the relief on their face that their problem is no longer.
What three pieces of advice do you wish you’d been given when you started?
- Be open and willing to adapt and evolve your business.
- Always push yourself out of your comfort zone even if it’s small increments as even 1% can make a huge difference.
- Be smart but willing to spend money to invest in things that will propel your business further.
What advice would YOU give someone thinking about starting a business?
Develop your business foundations. Know your values, vision, mission and purpose. These become the underlying principles of your business such as…
- How you will do business.
- What you will tolerate.
- What you expect from the people around you.
- What you will deliver.
What skills and knowledge areas would you recommend those starting out in business get acquainted with quickly?
Understand your finances and use a good accounting system to record transactions. Use the reports and insights from the software to measure your performance and keep an eye on your goals.
What does your IDEAL business look like? Even if you’re not there yet, what would it look like if your business was ideal?
I want to work with my ideal clients who see the value in my work and help simplify their businesses. I want to earn good money to support my family to live comfortably with less dependence on my time.
