Every Tipping Point Business Owner I have ever met has had a lifelong commitment to learning and continuous improvement. Whether that involves formal learning activities, such as having a mentor or engaging in structured education programs or being an avid reader and student of life, Tipping Point Business Owners see where they have gaps in their knowledge and skills and actively go about closing those gaps.
They know the value of investing in their education and are always in the “learner’s seat”.
I know, for me, personally, every time I’ve been at the Stuck Point in business, investing in my education and skill development has been helped me to get past it.
And ongoing learning is part of a weekly practise. Whether I’m listening to a podcast, doing an online course or sending myself to a live event, it’s a key part of ensuring that my skills stay current. It SO important to keep learning. And, of course – Implementing.
A commitment to learning is one of the 7 Characteristics of a Tipping Point Business – that’s a business where you have the momentum, the resources, the sales, the support and the return on investment that you’ve worked so hard for. And no matter where you are now — YOU have the potential of reaching your next tipping point in business.
It just takes getting the support to get there.

If you rated yourself a 5, congratulations — you’re really comfortable in the learner’s seat. Continuing to learn and grow will keep you strong as a leader. Continue to identify gaps in your knowledge and get support to fill those gaps.
And if you rated yourself 1 to 4, there are some tips below that will help you as you work on increasing your commitment to learning:
Commitment to Learning Tips
If you need to develop your commitment to learning:
- Look at the areas of weakness in your business and choose one key area to focus on mastering over the next 90 days
- Commit to investing in your education. Allocate a budget for training, courses, and mentoring in areas you specifically require assistance
- Discover how you best like to learn i.e. online courses, live events, reading, masterminds etc
- Approach learning with the excitement of what’s possible when you master a skill or process – rather than how difficult it may feel.

Entering fields she has not had any experience in and quickly rising to the top is all in a day’s work for Lisa, who has been a lifelong learner.
Lisa’s tips for success when it comes to lifelong learning:
- Fail fast – setbacks are just that – they set you back so fail fast and move on without losing so much time, money and resources
- Just do it; there are two types of people – the “implementer” and the “gunna” – the “gunna’s” always say they’re gunna do this and gunna do that. Those who put themselves on the line and commit, get a little uncomfortable are the winners
- Detach yourself from the outcome; those who are too steadfast in the way aren’t able to iterate, morph or pivot.
