Dr. Cath Cosgrave of Cath Cosgrave Consulting is a social scientist (PhD) with internationally recognised expertise in strengthening rural health workforce. Based on ten years of research, Cath developed the “Whole-of-Person Retention Improvement Framework” (WoP-RIF)— a guide for improving the attraction and retention of health professionals in rural places.
Cath is passionate about addressing rural access inequities and resourcing challenges and supporting rural communities to become thriving and sustainable places. She believes that effective rural solutions must be place-based and has extensive experience working in partnership with health services, local councils, and community-based organisations in developing evidenced-informed, community-engaged, strength-based solutions.
Cath now works with rural leaders and change-makers to help address chronic workforce shortages to support the health and wellbeing of people living rurally by ensuring the local availability of professional services. She offers online and face-to-face support to implement her proven strategies to attract and retain skilled professionals.
After 25+ years working in not-for-profits in the community development sector, plus another ten years in the university sector and now running her own fast growing business Cath recently became a HerBusiness Network member to have the support of other women who have also been on this fast learning curve and been able to establish successful businesses that allow them to share their skills and talents and make a difference in the world while giving them more time and freedom.
Cath herself lives in a small rural town located in Northern NSW on Gumbaynngirr country where she has raised two, now adult, boys and lives with her partner on five acres where they try to grow food and be a good steward of the land. In her spare time Cath is involved in two local community organisations committed to making the world a better and fairer place for all.
