Like most small business owners, I bet you’ve started this year thinking about marketing and how you can get more clients and income.
Perhaps you’re asking questions like…how can I get more likes and followers? How can I position myself as the expert? How can I get in the media? What other tactics can I pull out of my bag of tricks to get more business? Book publishing? Coffee meetings? Cold calling? Direct mail? Advertising?
Exhausting isn’t it?
We get taught by BS marketers that it’s all about more – having more hits, more followers, more likes, more expert appeal, more meetings, more of everything. They teach us to become unconscious binge marketers and they treat marketing as a bolt on – something to throw on to an extremely mediocre service or product in the hope that some of it will stick. No wonder chronic marketing fatigue sets in. What these guys don’t get is that marketing is an inside-out job. It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing less, but doing it in a whole new conscious way that is all about attraction instead of promotion. The goal of marketing is to get so many word-of-mouth referrals that you never have to be an unconscious binge marketer again. And guess how that happens? By operating with purpose, actually offering something people seriously want, having real experience and runs on the board, being interesting and ethical and differentiated and by swimming against the flow of conformity. I’m livid about the plethora of BS programs out there teaching vulnerable business owners how to become unconscious binge marketers. If you’re involved in that stuff, get out now. Dig deep, do some personal work on yourself first. The business and marketing block you’re experiencing is directly related to your personal consciousness. Believe me, I know, because I’ve been there and I’m doing it. If you’re at risk of suffering chronic marketing fatigue, you need to come to my one day seminar Reinvent Your Business on Friday 31 January at The Hub in Melbourne (the most awesome co-worker space on the planet). Find out more… Click here. I look forward to seeing you there. Yours in conscious marketing.
