Many of us connect the idea of selling as being pushy, abrupt and just downright rude. No, no, no. Sales isn’t icky and yuck and it isn’t best done by men (or women). Great selling is about people connecting with people and helping them solve a problem they have or satisfy a need. So ladies… let’s get stuck in so I can help you sell with grace and poise.
Lady Sales Star Rule One: Chin up
Be confident in yourself, who you are and what you know. Confidence is attractive and will give the right message no matter who your audience is.
Before you head into a meeting or pick up the phone, I want you to close your eyes, stand or sit up straight with your chin up. Then take a few deep breathes knowing that you are great just the way you are. Knowing that you have a great business and you know that people will want to know more about what you do.
Lady Sales Star Rule Two: Shoulders back
I can remember my mother saying, “Put your best foot forward”. You have assets, so put them to the fore. Don’t diminish what you do or what you have achieved. Be proud of your achievements.
Learn how to talk confidently about what you have learned in your business and why it is that you love what you do. Having your shoulders back is important as it means that no matter what you encounter, you have the strength to deal with it with poise and character. Not too forward, not too diminutive just perfectly balanced and real, like a lady!
Lady Sales Star Rule Three: Lippy on
I love lippy! Lippy is the last thing you put on when you are getting ready. Lippy says I am ready and prepared and have put the final touches on. It’s ok to put a bit of gloss on and show the world the best possible version of you and your business. This isn’t being deceptive of lying, it’s just glossing it up!
Think about how you present your business including the little touches. Make it personal and make it about what you love. Maybe it is time to update the look of your proposals, give your Facebook page a spit and polish or update brochures and handouts. Remember that first impressions count, and the ‘lippy’ will be the first thing they see.
