Having coached thousands of women business owners, I often see three big mistakes that prevent six-figure revenue goals from becoming a reality.
Making one of these mistakes alone can crush your hopes of growing a six or seven-figure business.
But, make all three mistakes, and likely you’ll be stifling any opportunity to reach your financial targets.
The good news is that once you can see these mistakes, they start to lose their power over you, and you start to gain the momentum to crack that goal of growing a healthy six or seven-figure business.
Let’s take a look at these mistakes and what to do about them:
Mistake No. 1 – No clear vision
Creating a profitable business starts with having a clear vision.
Your vision is whatever pulls you forward and whatever makes your heart sing.
What does your business look like when it is ideal?
If it’s been a while since you sat and looked at your vision, now might be a good time to pause and reflect.
Over the years, visions can change.
They change as your family grows or as you build a team.
You may lose sight of your vision at times because you get too busy, or the business takes off, and you start to lose control.
Revisiting your vision ensures you’re still heading in the direction you want to go.
Remember, your vision is what makes YOUR heart sing.
It could be to:
- Help 1000 people with diabetes, sore feet, or high electricity bills.
- Earn $100,000
- Grow a team and have a 7-figure business that you only work in at a strategic level
- Impact 100,000 people
- Automate and scale without having to work seven days a week
Our vision will often centre around our creative expression and how we put our stamp on the world — and our legacy.
But mainly, our vision is about your heart’s desire.
Not Oprah’s, not your parents’, and not what the books say. It’s about getting clear on what your vision is.
You’re going to be in business for a while. So, wouldn’t it be ideal to do what you love every day?
Start with clarifying your vision.
Mistake No. 2 — No clear roadmap
What is your plan to grow your profitable business? Is it to go from being a solopreneur to being a micropreneur (having a team of 2 – 15)?
To transition from working on your own to having a team, you need to THINK like a micropreneur and DO what a micropreneur does.
Shifting from solo to micro takes a roadmap because these are two very different types of businesses.
Maybe you want to really scale. You want to build a large team. You want management. You want out of the day-to-day. That’s great too. It just requires the right roadmap.
PLANNING enables you to focus on the keys to your business success.
You want to know your IDEAL CLIENT and the best PRODUCT or SERVICE to sell them.
You want to SHOW UP (both online and offline) where they are because you can’t be everywhere.
You want the best SUPPLIERS and TEAM around you.
And to have your TECHNOLOGY figured out so that you’re making the most of your resources.
When you have a roadmap, you know the key areas that make a difference, you can get to a point where you’re sustainable, whether that’s as a solopreneur, micropreneur and beyond.
You’re no longer on a roller coaster of sales, but instead, you have predictable sales.
Create your roadmap. What do you focus on first? What do you DO, and what do you STOP doing in your business?
Mistake No. 3 – Thinking Too Small
We’re all guilty of thinking too small at times.
We can think we’re stretching ourselves, especially if we haven’t got anyone on the sounding board to say,
“Oh, come on, you’ve got that. Reach higher”
“Why don’t you aim bigger?”
“Why don’t you charge more?”
“Why don’t you go try this new thing?”
What would your business look like if you thought bigger?
You can achieve this by being around people who see the possibility and potential in you and your goals.
You don’t want to tell your six and seven-figure goals to people who don’t think you can get there.
When you surround yourself with mentors and peers who think bigger, it allows you to think bigger too.
Take a look at who you’re surrounding yourself with. Are they thinking big?
