The South by Southwest Conference was full of exciting things, and Tina Tower, founder of Begin Bright, our HerBusiness correspondent, was in the middle of it all. Day Four was full of big name speakers and great advice.
First Entrepreneur Mark Cuban had a lot of insight on failure. He said it doesn’t matter how many times you fall as long as you always get back up. The only thing that matters is that one success, and it will be so worth all the failures. He also talked a lot about deep learning and artificial intelligence.
John Cena, the hilarious WWE fighter, talked about his journey. He said that failure was never an option for him and that was his secret to success – don’t ever give up. When asked what he wanted to be remembered for, he said loving what he does, loving who he’s with and being easy to work with. His advice for women was all about finding your strength and being inspiring for your words not your actions.
Fashion designer Marc Jacobs surprised Tina by saying he doesn’t know who his ideal client is, and later she found herself at a session on artificial intelligence. The next big thing is going to be wearable technology that will be able to tell you all different kinds of information about your health.
Author Adam Grant was so good she said, you have to download his talk and watch it for yourself. Two highlights from his talk though, were to get your entire team together and pretend to be your biggest competitor. Brainstorm ways to take down your business, and that is how you will find ways to improve. Also, hire people based on their cultural contribution rather than cultural fit.
