On Wednesday, 25 July, Victoria’s Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business, Louise Asher MP, launched the 2012 Victoria’s Small Business Festival. Six HerBusiness members, including CEO, Suzi Dafnis, were in attendance for this successful event, which featured a presentation by Rachel Botsman, author of “What’s Mine is Yours: The Rise of Collaborative Consumption“, who spoke on five important business trends. HerBusiness Member, Belinda Weaver of Copywrite Matters, who was also in attendance at the launch said, “The Small Business Festival is a month long buffet of amazing business events and it was great to be there at the launch. Louise Asher MP was supportive of the important role small business plays in Victoria’s economy, which was encouraging to hear.
A real highlight was the presentation by Rachel Botsman, as she shared the top 5 super trends that are changing the way people and business entities engage with each other. It was inspiring stuff.” Minister Asher said the month-long 2012 Small Business Festival was designed to help the state’s 523,000 small businesses access new skills and ideas to boost their productivity.
“With more than 250 information seminars, workshops and networking events across Melbourne and regional Victoria throughout August, the 2012 Small Business Festival demonstrates the Coalition Government’s commitment to strengthening this important part of our economy,” Ms Asher said. “Small business contributes approximately 30 per cent of the state’s production and employs a significant number of Victorians, accounting for 1.2 million jobs.”
