Does the mention of systems make you grunt in recognition that your systems are really not up to scratch?
Or have you ever thought that you might need better systems in your business for running your business?
Right now, whether it’s obvious to you or not, you DO have a system for pretty much every part of your business.
Unfortunately, many times the systems we have are not supporting our business grow and performance.
Last week my assistant Natalie went on maternity leave for 12 months so we’ve been training one of our other awesome team members, Robyn, to step into Nat’s role while she’s away. It’s been a while since we last had to fill the role and so the role description and systems associated with the role need updating.
While 80% of systems and processes are documented and still apply, there’s probably 20% of things that I want to change to bring things more up to date with the current requirements of the role, new technology and apps that we are now using and also to upgrade the role to incorporate areas that I feel we could improve on.
I know that reviewing the systems is a good investment of time and energy.
Because a lack of systems, and even allowing yourself and others to get sloppy with the established systems can mean a really big drop in results.
It can mean lost time.
Unnecessary mistakes.
And it can sometimes mean lost dollars as well.
So, when you look at your systems…
Are your systems half-baked?
Or they are barely there or not adhered to?
Perhaps they don’t actually save time or make sense because they haven’t been updated?
Systems are designed to give us a turnkey result and to allow us to leverage our time and efforts.
The results you’re getting right now in your business might just be a reflection of the systems you have.
For example, the system you have for marketing your products or service really determines your results.
Let’s take a look at a few marketing systems:
- How do you generate leads?
- How do you follow up on enquiries to make a sale?
- What are the steps that a customer goes through to move towards a purchase?
- How do you generate testimonials from happy customers so that you can use those to get more business?
And what about your product’s systems?
What’s your process for launching a new product?
How do you deliver what a customer has purchased so that every customer gets the same experience and level of service?
These are tiny examples of the systems that any business has.
The problem is that some of us have got things really locked down in some parts of our business but not in others.
For example, we have a great marketing system but not a system for onboarding a new team member or virtual assistant.
