Have you ever noticed that when you think everything is difficult or that business is tough, that it is difficult and tough? Or that when you are in a positive frame of mind suddenly everything seems to be positive?
The Dent Global Group has a saying, “You Are What You Pitch For and You’re Always Pitching”, which resounds perfectly with these sentiments.
I’ve worked with hundreds of business owners over the years and I’ve seen my fair share of negativity and heard of doom and gloom. And yet even when there is doom and gloom there are those businesses that seem to flourish. It just doesn’t seem to make sense until you delve into it more deeply and realise that the owners of that flourishing business have a different mindset. They’re not listening to the doom and gloom that is being expounded, they are doing their own thing, being positive, looking for opportunities and making their business succeed.
One of my clients had an extremely negative attitude for a couple of years. She blamed the government for changing legislation, she blamed the economy generally for people not spending money and her view of the future was very negative. I’m not sure quite what changed but one day I met with her and her attitude was different. She had a number of people who had approached her to do work for them and she said that she thought the future was looking good, that finally they’d turned the corner and there was hope on the horizon. And sure enough, suddenly the business seemed to take off again with plenty of work in the pipeline.
I’ve seen it over and over again when the business owner is positive and excited for the future that the opportunities seem to go their way. Business that didn’t exist before seems to appear from seemingly nowhere and they go from strength to strength.
What is behind all of this is our subconscious mind working hard to make our thoughts a reality. You see, our subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between positive and negative. All it can do is focus on what you’re thinking.
So listen really hard to your internal thoughts and make sure these are positive ones, and watch what you say too as both your thoughts and words will dictate your future. Filter out the negativity and see how different the world appears. You will be surprised at the opportunities you see that in reality were there all along.
Whether you are “pitching” for work or just thinking about how your business is going, it’s all the same: positivity breeds positive results.
