Christine Macauley’s induction into the 2014 Businesswomen’s Hall of Fame was covered in Motorbike Writer’s Motorbike News, “Female riders lead to happy marriage”, on 24 February 2014. Motorbike Writer quoted Christine’s advice for a happy married life, suggesting that women buy their own motorcycle instead of riding on their husband’s pillion. She also stated that female motorcyclists are now the fastest growing category of her business.
“The number one reason is women are earning more money now. They’ve now got a greater sense of achievement. Also, if their husbands are riding they will quite often prefer to ride than pillion. They want to share the sport with their husbands.”
Christine told Motorbike Writer that she grew up in an era where female opinions were undervalued. Her mother’s advice to let her husband run the business alone fell on deaf ears, so when asked how she was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia, Christine answers: “by not listening to my mother”. HerBusiness CEO Suzi Dafnis was also quoted in the article:
“We wanted to raise awareness of the great things women are achieving in the motorcycle industry as well as providing other female entrepreneurs with great role models such as Christine.”
Aside from co-owning Robbo’s Motorcycles with her husband, the article also lists some of her many noteworthy contributions to the industry. You can read the full Motorbike Writer article here. To see Christine’s 2014 Hall of Fame profile, click here.
