Each year HerBusiness provides work experience opportunities for interns from Australia and overseas. This year, we’ve had numerous dedicated candidates work with us who have made invaluable contributions to HerBusiness’ projects and to further their own learning and skills.
At HerBusiness we understand that internships are gateways for young individuals that open up paths towards their chosen professions. It allows for a safe platform for these individuals to gain confidence and hands-on experience whilst working in a professional environment. But internships are a mutually beneficial business. Our past interns have made significant contributions to HerBusiness with their knowledge and skills in business management, social media, journalism, public relations and digital design. Moreover, their hard work and enthusiasm were what inspired us all at HerBusiness to strengthen our team spirit.
Here, we would like to thank and acknowledge each intern’s time at HerBusiness and wish them every success as they embark on their future career paths.
Cloris Kuo
Cloris Kuo currently studies Marketing at the Hong Kong Baptist University.
Struck by the sun-kissed beaches and its world-renowned reputation for being an international financial center, Cloris decided to intern in Sydney, at HerBusiness. The astounding differences in everyday life between Hong Kong and Australia were other factors that motivated Cloris to begin her life in Sydney.
Her time at HerBusiness allowed Cloris to strengthen her computer software skills, including HootSuite, Infusionsoft, and iOS. The weekly Wednesday meetings became a highlight of her time at HerBusiness. But what really inspired Cloris during her internship were the marketing projects she became involved in. The very structured marketing management she observed and the impeccable marketing analysis that was conducted on a project was what inspired Cloris to pursue a master’s degree in marketing management.
In the future, Cloris hopes to be involved in business marketing campaigns, including email and social media strategies.
“I liked the rich and fulfilling time here at HerBusiness as I got regular tasks to complete every day. When I did finish those tasks, I would have a sense of achievement.”
“I am thankful for the great team of people I worked with. I feel grateful to be part of a very nice team. I learned a lot as an intern at HerBusiness, and I gained an unforgettable experience here.”
Cara Albert
Cara currently studies Creative Writing with a minor in Mass Communication at the University of Central Florida.
Cara has always been interested in visiting Australia, and so the two months internship at HerBusiness seemed like a perfect opportunity for her to explore the country not just as a tourist, but also as a working local. A proud feminist, working for HerBusiness where women come together to help and motivate each other was an ideal workplace for Cara.
Her contribution to HerBusiness included writing content for various articles, editorials and other projects. This meant she was able to concentrate on improving her technical writing and editing skills. The amount of support and attention she was given over the course of her internship was what Cara found to be the highlight of her time at HerBusiness.
Cara aspires to be a copywriter at an advertising agency and wishes to continue writing and publishing her own creative writing.
“I really enjoyed being part of an organisation that advocates and encourages businesswomen.”
“In America, internships often just consist of a bit of training and fetching coffee for the rest of the employees. However, here I was given a lot of work to help improve my writing skills and because much of it was published, I genuinely felt as though I contributed something to the company.”
Mary Klepzig
Mary currently studies Communication and Spanish at the University of Tennessee.
During her time at HerBusiness, Mary worked on various tasks including writing, blogging and editing. In all the projects she took part in, Mary enjoyed the freedom she was given and the open-mindedness of her superiors as it allowed her to grow and improve on her mistakes. The tasks Mary was assigned to challenge her to research and learn more about the content of the topic before writing about it.
She grew to tolerate and be willing to work on new and foreign topics, despite not being successful at first attempt. The professionalism, time management and responsibility she learned at the internship program are qualities Mary believes will stay with her throughout her professional career.
In the future, Mary hopes to work in PR for a non-profit organisation, and or start her own non-profit organisation. She also wishes to continue studying communications and public policy upon graduation.
“The coolest part of this internship is that you second-handedly[sic] learn principles of business and marketing.”
“Thank you for creating an environment for me to grow and try new things, and especially making me feel comfortable to share my ideas.”
