It’s hard to believe that December is here already. I’m not sure where this year has gone and judging by the many comments I hear, others are feeling the same way.
But here we are, another year end is upon us. We can lament the speedy passage of time, wind down and get stuck into the Christmas celebrations, or we can choose to end the year on a positive note.
By choosing to focus on a positive end to the year, you will also be setting up the New Year to get off to a great start. Close one door properly before you open the next.
As you plan your year-end wind down, I suggest the following:
Review 2015 for lessons learned
Set up a meeting and spend a little time reviewing the big rocks of 2015. How did you go with them? Were there any big failures that had some good take away lessons? Anything that you would do differently if you had your time over? Anything that needs to go to the top of the list for the New Year?
Acknowledge milestones and achievements
Taking a good look at what you actually achieved and acknowledging the hard work of yourself and others build motivation and job satisfaction. It’s always good to finish the year on a positive note with an added dose of gratitude. If you have staff members it’s good to acknowledge and thank them for their contribution. We all like to be appreciated, a little recognition goes a long way.
Set your goals for 2016
Once you have tied up the loose ends of this year it’s good to take a look at what you would like to achieve for next year. Starting off on the right foot will make all the difference when it comes down to achieving your goals. Above all, you need to know where you want to go so you can come up with the best strategies to take you there. Get your strategy in place!
Give yourself a well-earned break
Most of all I suggest you take time out over the Christmas break to renew and recharge. You’ve earned a good break, make the most of it.
There is nothing worse than starting off a New Year feeling worn out. If you take the time to really step back, unplug, relax and recharge, you will begin the New Year from a position of strength.
