How to grow a huge following on Instagram

Is your business on Instagram? More and more small businesses are growing their communities and getting business results using this popular social network.

In a recent Social Media for Small Business podcast with Nathan Chan, Founder of Foundr Magazine, he discussed the importance of having an Instagram strategy that will be a successful channel for driving your business.

Nathan’s Instagram following grew from zero followers to around 800k in just under a year and a half. This was not planned. Nathan tested the platform and learned tactics on how to use Instagram to his advantage. After all, he says, “Good marketing is throwing things against the wall and seeing what sticks”.

Nathan shares that there is not just one trick to being successful on Instagram, advice that applies to all social media platforms. Simply doing one thing will not lead you to instant success. When it comes to your businesses’ social media, it is not “a sprint but a marathon.”

Nathan’s Three Keys to Instagram:

  • Quality content
  • Consistency
  • Visually appealing posts

How to Drive Traffic to you Core Assets Through Instagram:

  • Have one clickable link in your bio.
  • Create compelling offers to want people to click.
  • Don’t sell people every second of the day.
  • Build a relationship with your audience.
  • Prepare to play the long game.

Mistakes People Make on Social Media:

  • Their content does not look good.
  • They lose momentum.
  • Social media is not a solo game.
  • They forget to cross pollinate platforms.
