Johanna Baker-Dowdell owns and runs writing and storytelling service Strawberry Communications.

The consultancy builds relationships with the media and key stakeholders on behalf of its SME clients. This service is provided through careful research and strategic communication, then maintained by telling the business’s story through expertly crafted words.

Strawberry Communications is based in Launceston and was launched in 2007.

Johanna has more than 20 years experience in the media industry and is also an author, freelance journalist, blogger and PhD candidate.

My Expertise

Johanna Baker-Dowdell is a storyteller who writes wearing a number of hats: author, freelance journalist, PhD candidate and blogger.

After discovering you could make a career out of a need to know what is happening in the world, Johanna studied journalism and public relations at the University of Newcastle. She worked at several newspapers before ‘crossing to the other side’ as a marketer and PR consultant.

A four-year working holiday in the UK combined Johanna’s love of writing and marketing with travel, and inspired her to start her own business when returning to Australia in 2005. Johanna built her freelance writing and PR work into a business and Strawberry Communications was launched in 2007, with the aim of helping micro and small businesses tell their story through expertly crafted words.

Johanna published the non-fiction book Business & Baby on Board in 2013 and since then her personal essays have been published in the anthologies Love Alters and Unfinished Chapters and a fictional story published as part of the Transportation Book’s Letter Project. Johanna also loves to read, bake sweet treats and explore new places on foot and via plane, train or automobile.

My Passions

My passions change as my life does, but right now I’m passionate about making my business succeed around my family, furthering my personal development through my doctoral research into journalism and social media and finding the right property to start a hazelnut farm.
