 – How to Use Instagram to Get Paying Clients with Fiona Keary & Seona Roberts

If you’ve been posting on Instagram and wondering why the likes and views aren’t translating into sales, this episode is for you. My guests, Fiona Keary, CEO of Style Liberation, and Seona Roberts, crochet mentor and founder of the Hooked on Crochet Club, share their Instagram strategies.

They’ve tested, refined, and uncovered surprising tactics that drive engagement (and, most importantly, convert followers into paying clients!). Fiona reveals how she completely cut paid ads and grew her audience organically from 2K to 11K followers in just a few months. And, Seona shares with us how curiosity, teaching, and connection are the secret ingredients to keeping her audience engaged.

Here’s What You’ll Learn in the Episode:

  • The unexpected content format that drove the most views and lead magnet downloads for Fiona (after 6 months of testing).
  • How Seona uses visual hooks and curiosity to keep her audience engaged.
  • The journey from engagement to conversion and what it really takes to turn followers into paying customers.
  • How to create content that pinpoints pain points and positions you and your services as the solution.
  • The know, like, and trust factor (and why nurturing your audience is key).
  • Personal advice from a stylist on how to show up confidently on camera and feel great doing it.
  • How to balance stories, reels, carousels, and posts (and how to manage the scheduling of everything).
  • Discover the turning point when Fiona and Seona both realised Instagram was more than just a visibility tool… it could drive real revenue
  • How Fiona went from spending $1K–$2K a month on ads to ZERO – and having completely organic growth, and why it worked.

Do you want to pack smarter and lighter and still have lots of outfit options?

Sure, we could give you a list, but one size does not fit all when it comes to packing. We’ll share how to choose your foundation pieces, the #1piece3ways rule and how to get away with packing just two pairs of shoes.

About the host

Suzi Dafnis

Hi there. I’m Suzi Dafnis, CEO at HerBusiness. My BIG passion is helping women business owners to grow and scale their business, so that they can create their ideal lifestyle and make a difference in the world. Every day I am inspired by the more than 30,000 amazing women (and men!) in our community and I love finding the best education, mentors, and resources from around the globe, to help them get the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed. It’s been my privilege to lead HerBusiness (formerly The Australian Businesswomen’s Network) for the past 23 years (two+ decades – WOW!) because, whilst I’ve enjoyed success in business, I’ve also experienced the highs and the lows – sometimes you can feel on top of the world and in control and other times you can feel isolated, exhausted and stuck. What has made the biggest difference for me has always been having great people around me and having a lifelong commitment to learning. That’s why I am so passionate about the work we do here at HerBusiness – providing a Connection Network for women in business to get the mentors, contacts, referrals, knowledge, and skills they need to grow their confidence, make more money, build their businesses, expand their network and create the lives they love. My entrepreneurial journey started in the spare room of my Sydney apartment in 1994 when my business partner and I started a boutique events company that represented speakers and authors from the USA, here in Australia. Over the years I’ve grown multiple multi-million dollar businesses in the events, publishing and education niches – with teams in Australia, New Zealand, and the USA. Not everything has worked and there has been a degree of trial and error, and a lot of bumps in the road. But I have always had a strong commitment to always surrounding myself with great mentors and like-minded peers – a Connection Network that I can depend on and who can depend on me to be there for them too. I truly do what I love, every day.

I’ve always been crafty, but I didn’t discover my true craft calling until I taught myself to crochet in my early forties. It was then that I found all of the pieces of the puzzle of my life coming together. Crochet became my outlet for the stresses that being a mum to 3 kids plus a couple of foster kids while working full-time in a demanding job can bring. The rhythm of my hook and the feeling of accomplishment every time I finish a row or finish a project is the most stress relieving and therapeutic part of my every day. My creative side was sparked when I learned to crochet. I understood how everything worked and so I started designing my own patterns and selling them online. I had no interest (and still don’t) in selling what I make, but my skills in writing procedures and creating systems are of great benefit in writing crochet patterns that are easy to understand and follow.  It wasn’t long before writing patterns wasn’t enough. My love for teaching and training others needed a new outlet. And seeing the struggles that so many other crocheters experience - like not being able to read a pattern - and knowing that I could help them, lead me to creating the Hooked on Crochet Club. The Hooked on Crochet Club is my happy place. It allows me to bring all of my skill set together to teach and inspire other crocheters. I find so much joy in seeing other women pick up a hook and make their first chain and then a short time later experience the joy and excitement from finally “getting it” and starting on their first projects.  There is a reason why so many people crochet and why so many of us crochet so often. It is more than “just a hobby”, it is a therapy, it is a stress reliever and a versatile way to give to ourselves and to give to others.  Don’t believe me? Why not try it for yourself and see. Check out my free beginners guide and give crochet a go. I certainly didn’t regret it!

I was an accountant and a style tragic (being the first doesn’t mean that you are the second)! I loved clothes but had no idea how to pull it all together. Sometimes I got it right, but ‘wow’ sometimes I got it very wrong. I had a wardrobe full of clothes, many of them costly mistakes and nothing mixed and matched. Having learnt the tricks and tools for creating a capsule wardrobe, I now works with individuals and organisations (such as KPMG, ANU, Canberra Airport and Beyond Bank) to help them create a polished and professional image. I understand that due to the demands of our busy lives, that clients want to simplify their wardrobes, invest in great pieces and save valuable time.
