Nothing I do is good enough.
I can’t update my blog – it’ll never be as good as hers.
What a clever turn of phrase, why are my words so dull?
I wish I could have thought to design my newsletter like that.
Their work is so much better than mine.
Nothing I do can be as good as what they’re doing.
Do any of these sound familiar?
Thinking like this is exhausting. When we seek validation from an external source, in the nebulous future, it can and likely will harm our physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual well-being, and drain us of the energy we need to keep running our businesses.
In this webinar, Suzi Dafnis talks with Cassie Mendoza Jones – kinesiologist, naturopath, and author of “You Are Enough: How to Elevate Your Thoughts, Align Your Energy, and Get Out of the Comparison Trap” – about why we need to accept that we are enough exactly as we are today.
People often fall into the trap of thinking they can earn confidence and self-worth through action. They think as soon as they nail that goal, get that follower count, or whatever else it is. Someday, they’ll finally respect themselves. The trouble is, that day never comes. Regardless of how much they achieve, there will always be another milestone to reach for.
It’s not fair or healthy to delay our self-worth indefinitely. We need to be happy and confident with whoever we are today.
Working through established negative patterns is hard, and it’ll take time. Cassie shares several practical tips for clearing your mind of incessant worry and comparison.
For one, she stresses the importance of “brain holidays” during which you give your body and mind space to relax. And while killing an hour with mindless distractions like catching up on your social media feeds or organising your emails or the like, it doesn’t recharge your spiritual and emotional batteries. A more mindful rest, like guided or silent meditation, will nourish you.
The world needs your best self. When you’re strung-out and exhausted, much as you’d like to keep it inside, it shows in your work. People sense that negative energy and retreat from it. On the other hand, if you’re joyous and vibrant, that energy will flow from everything you do, drawing people to you and your work.
You are enough, exactly as you are today. Let yourself acknowledge it.
